As usual good instruction by all the instructors and superb by several. Many thought MrE may have the high roll in the no 7’s
but alas he 7’d early on. I rolled 2nd with a not so hot 7 throws but it held up until the end when a lady Primer had a nice 16. Congratulations to her! Learned the
most about my throw late in the day on Sunday.

MrE and I had arrived on Wednesday, played downtown throughout the weekend. MrE was up and I was up and down. Felt like I was not on but thought that I would pick it
up after class. That is exactly what happened. MrE and the future MrsE drove home Monday morning. I played at the hotel and had a hot roll somewhere in the 30’s and
finished up for the time in Vegas. We headed for a belated "Honeymoon" in Lake Tahoe.

In Tahoe it was as though everything I learned was to no avail. Short rolls, point 7’s. Made a little after 5 counting some randies. It wasn’t enough. Four days of slowly
sliding down the hill. Meanwhile my Mrs hit the slots big time. She came home up more than I came home down.

We spent one night in Reno and one night in West Wendover. I had been anticipating the table in Wendover. After getting the dice for about 6 rolls and things were
moving nicely the stick change changed all that. The new stick man said "No setting the dice" and pointed to a sign on the table. I still set until he got insistent, pulled
all my bets and promptly 7’d out. Later I remembered Frank’s solution to no setting casinos. See the set passed and bet into it. I should have done that. No more playing
there though because no setting pisses me off. I didn’t check any other casinos there. It is too bad too because I can really do well on that table. Made more than 50% on
my buy in before leaving.

Now I am working on the changes suggested in class. My first practice at home was very good. As usual I will play on Sunday afternoon. Thank goodness for the Broncos.
Many players stay home to watch the game so they are not at the tables. More throwing for me!

The journey continues.

OneMoonCircles

Replies:

Posted by: getagrip on October 1, 2015, 11:09 pm

OMC,

If you don’t mind sharing. You got my curiosity going when you said you learned the most about your toss on Sunday afternoon. What was that? I am always curious about what others are discovering about there tosses and if it might help me also on my journey.

I have heard before that Wendover does not allow setters. Too bad! I had one place tell me once that they did not allow dice setting but because I was tipping well the stick passed the dice to me with hard eight on top so I kept playing and tipping. Otherwise, I would have walked as well.

Thanks for the report!

Posted by: OneMoonCircles on October 4, 2015, 5:12 am

I, fortunately for me, haven’t had many issues. No big things came up until later in the afternoon and 1 instructor that I hadn’t seen on Saturday saw
a flaw that needed correction. I am working on this in my practices at home with good results. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll see how it goes in the casino. Usually
after a class it seemed to take several weeks to see improved results. This time around the improvements have shown up right away.

I think nerves enter into the first day of class and I seem to make basic mistakes while trying to look perfect. Sunday I really settled in. Always a great class.

OMC

Posted by: getagrip on October 4, 2015, 2:21 pm

Thanks OMC,

Yes, I think that is the tendency, for at least most of us anyway, to try to hard and think too much about our tosses when we take a class. None of us wants to stink it up in front of the instructors or other students so we usually put too much pressure on ourselves to perform in those situations. It does take a while to settle in to our real toss at the classes.

Glad it worked out for you. Sounds like the instruction that you got was right on and I am not surprised by that! 😀

Posted by: OneMoonCircles on October 4, 2015, 5:14 pm

Just this morning I compared my notes from the primer and the refresher. Four things that came out of both are: 1. Don’t baby the throw. 2. Keep the "C".
3. Square the shoulders. 4. Reach out and don’t throw off your right leg. (I throw left -handed, so if you are right-handed thrower translate that as "back"leg)

I have ben working diligently to have a short backswing but too short I think has caused a slight pause in my swing and a flick in the wrist to compensate. Nick
discovered this so I am working to stop the pause. He stated that it was almost imperceptible and checked with another instructor to see if that was what he
really was seeing. The other instructor concurred, he hadn’t seen it either but did once Nick asked.

On my own I usually have a slight tilt to my dice up toward the boxman because something in my throw causes the dice to bounce left into the mixing bowl.
I think it is a natural twist of my arm and with the tilt they either bounce straight back or to the right a little. Better than in the mixing bowl.

About 6 weeks prior to the refresher I had my son, MrE, come over and analyze my throw. I was having a terrible set of practices. In just minutes he said "square your shoulders"
as my right shoulder was too high. In just a week I rolled a 72 in practice, my best ever, and I believe that was the biggest problem.

My other problem is my betting. I am way too conservative for my own good. Not betting enough on myself especially when I am "on". My bankroll has stayed
about the same for 4 years, not growing or decreasing. I have fun at the casino but it is frustrating to not make any progress in the bankroll. In this regard I have
increased my buy in for practice to see if I can gain more confidence using larger bets particularly on the 6 and 8.

Any instructors reading this your comments are solicited.

OneMoonCircles

MrE and I took the refresher this time around.
