Came back with a bunch of cash and spent almost as much as I came back with (including paying for the seminar and the next refresher) so up a bunch. So, even with plane, seminar and other expenses — Bali Hai is a good golf course and close to the strip — only $150 if you book online and $150 if you complain that it was the online price even if you have to call — I came out of there with a good profit and a wonderful set of experiences in and out of the seminar. Did play tired yesterday am and had a loss as my last play (I can see Dom shaking his head like he does as he reads this because I played tired but, I am getting better–) but not terrible, I did quit before running out of money which is a win for me.

It was great. This is my second refresher (first was in April). The difference in my roll was apparent to everyone as they told me. The difference in my consistency and size of bank roll is even better to know.

As I was in Memphis I am astonished that people were saying their last seminar was a year ago, 2 years ago or more. As I said earlier, I teach docs a physical skill. I tell them they need at least 3 but better 5 or 6 seminars the first year to get decently good. I can tell you it is the same with this.

Not just my rolling but my understanding of what is occurring expanded greatly. And, like with what I teach, I have discovered from the student point of view that you have to have a certain amount of experience to even begin to understand what some of the instructors are saying. I heard things this time that were just noise to me in April because of not enough experience throwing and not enough knowledge to have a basis for understanding.

If you are not coming to 2 or 3 of these seminars each year I promise you that you are missing out on lots of fun and a heck of a lot or wins.

If you are concerned about the money… Welllllll, a long time ago before going to a practice management seminar when someone else complained about the cost I heard a guy say, wanting to make the money before spending it to go to the seminar is like a farmer telling his field that if it gave him some corn he would then plant some…

The guy said it was backward thinking… being who I am I piped up, backward thinking hell, it is just stupid.

Sign up for the next seminar now. I have already signed for Shreveport and am pissed the next Vegas seminar is a weekend I am teaching my seminars…

Replies:

Posted by: MikeS on June 30, 2015, 3:06 pm

Thank you for the perspective JesJac. The Primer class is about trying to assist the student develop their GRIP, pick-up delivery and toss. the thing we say the most to the primers is slow down, it is natural to want to hurry up and deliver the dice. Where does it all begin, with the GRIP. If you can’t grip the dice you can not toss them effectively.

My first question when I see Refresher students or those who sign up for a Tune-up is how many hours per week do you work on your GRIP. The average answer is 0:00, yes 0:00. My answer is how the hell do you expect to throw the dice with any skill if you can not pick them up and hold them properly. I get flustered with this answer. You want to improve your toss but you do not start at the beginning which is Grip.

The other part about taking multiple classes is that until you are taught the basics you can not understand some of the finer points which we need to impart to you when you take a refresher class and the best shooters have taken multiple refresher classes 3 -4 of them before moving on to the Advanced class where NFF and BTK will bring you to next level of achievement. Then these students will take multiple Advanced classes and also return for another Refresher class just to have a few glitches removed that they develop.

The GTC Instructors all have our toss looked at by the other instructors because we develop minor flaws in our toss.

Jesse is right on the money when he talks about taking multiple class along with many others who have done so.

thanks Jesse for the positive enforcement.

Posted by: JesJac on July 1, 2015, 2:34 am

Finesse is right.
Got a tune up from Dom when I knew something was off. Corrected something with my grip and said this is more than 90%. Without this being right the rest, setting, straight, etc. doesn’t really matter.

Was wondering if that really was an Einstein quote. It is. This one too along similar lines,

"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."

Get one of those gripper tools and use it to compare tips to ideal.

As I noted, I teach docs. People who know me think I will be tough to teach because I am always telling others. It is the opposite, when people follow my directions they accomplish what I say they will.

So, I try to follow directions. Including practice and how to practice.

By the way, this is a passion for Dom and his instructors.they make more before and after class playing than from the seminars. I have seen this. Why do I mention that?

When they tell you to do something that will cost you money, it is not because they need it, it is because you do.

Posted by: Skinny on July 1, 2015, 6:57 am

"JesJac" wrote: Was wondering if that really was an Einstein quote. I think this time around Mr. Finesse finally got through my thick skull how important it is to constantly work on the grip. So I made a commitment to practice my grip at least 30 min a day every day. Haven’t missed a day since I returned. Thanks to all the instructors I worked with this past weekend.

Posted by: NickatNight on July 6, 2015, 5:20 pm

J- Check is in mail…(just kidding) All you say is so true.
