One of the main reasons that many students don’t continue to play craps is because: 1. they don’t always follow the GTC principles and second they truly think that all they need to do is go into the casinos and they will be an instant winner each and every time–after all they took the course. Folks it won’t happen any more than the casinos will win from each and every player in any game 100% of the time.

During our last 2 trips to casinos–AC and Northwest Louisiana–Rose and Doc have had success in that we won both times–big money for us as we won about 75% of the share of the bank roll that we take with us–BTW the rest we leave as home in a safe. Don’t misunderstand us, during both trips we had periods of time when we stunk. But looking back over the records we kept during the trip, only about of 1/3 of the time we had profitable rolls with a several outstanding rolls that put us in the black for each trip.

This has nothing to do with our throw, which we feel is pretty good but can always be improved. What we have learned is that you will have some bad turns with the dice such as "point seven out." Maybe even followed by a short roll of not making the 5 count. Then boom we will have a very nice roll in the 20’s or high teens, which will not only make money on that roll but more than cover the losses on the prior 2 rolls. There may even be a monster roll from time to time. Patience is the name of the game here. Just be sure your bank roll is adequate for your level of play to cover those short run losses that will occur. You need to lose very little on the bad rolls which will occur, but you also need to make a little on some short rolls where you might have 3 number covered but you only make 2 pay days—a small loss. Protect your bank roll for when the good rolls will eventually occur.

The casinos win for 2 reasons: obviously they have an advantage on every bet in the house with the possible exception of the odds bets in craps, which you can only get if and when you make a pass line bet or come bet. Secondly they have a multi-million dollar bank roll to withstand a large loss until the house percentage will come into play in the long run.
We are no different we simply must have a bank roll to keep us in the game during a short run losses, so that the edge that we have will bring us back in the long run. You can’t come to the casino with a few hundred dollars and play a $25 table an expect to win on any consistent basis.

As is often mentioned in class we are 300 hitters. Think about that for a minute. In Major League Baseball, a player who can consistently hit 300 can demand a contract somewhere north of $15 million. So that player is the best of the best. We are no different. These players take batting practice before every game which is several times a week and each team has a batting coach who can catch small flaws at the plate. We need to do the same by: playing with others who can help, take a refresher course, video, or tune up. All professional athletes get some coaching from time to time.

This is something we have been discussing together and wanted to share with others. Hope this will benefit members of this board.

Rose and Doc

Replies:

Posted by: JawBones on April 10, 2015, 4:00 pm

Hi Rose and Doc.

You make many excellent points in this thread. I, too, was a bit caught up in the "now I’ve taken the course, I’m gonna kick casino butt" mentality. When it didn’t happen that way, I went back to fundamentals and practiced even harder. When I took the refresher last October in Vegas (doing it again this September) I began to have more realistic expectations.

An SRR of 7 means that the devil will show himself once every 7 rolls on average. That means we are all going to have runs where we just can’t seem to get over the hump and our 401g curve points downward. By trusting the throw, betting correctly, and, as you pointed out, betting within the limits of our individual 401g’s we will come out on top after it’s all said and done.

Can’t say enough about continued training, practice, smart betting, and playing within the limits of your account. Never bet too large and let the wins come to you.

See you in September in Vegas.

Dennis "Jawbones"

Posted by: Dominator on April 10, 2015, 8:22 pm

"JawBones" wrote: Hi Rose and Doc.

An SRR of 7 means that the devil will show himself once every 7 rolls on average.

Dennis "Jawbones"

Remember that all you need to show an advantage is an SRR of 6.23 with proper betting!

Just a great write up Doc!
