\n\t(Bloomberg) \u2014 Pete Rose has requested that his lifetime ban from Major League Baseball be lifted and new commissioner Rob Manfred said he\u2019ll take it under consideration.<\/p>\n
\tManfred, speaking to reporters at the Los Angeles Dodgers\u2019 spring training camp, said he received a formal reinstatement request from Rose, the sport\u2019s all-time leader with 4,256 hits.<\/p>\n
\tManfred, who in January succeeded Bud Selig as baseball\u2019s 10th commissioner, said he\u2019ll talk with Rose\u2019s representatives about the request. Rose, 73, was suspended in 1989 by then- commissioner Bart Giamatti after an investigation found he bet on baseball, including on the Cincinnati Reds during the 1985-87 seasons while he was the team\u2019s manager.<\/p>\n
\tThe ruling made Rose ineligible for the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
\tAfter 15 years of denying that he bet on baseball, Rose said in his 2004 book, \u201cMy Prison Without Bars,\u201d that he confessed to Selig while seeking to have the ban lifted. He\u2019s had previous reinstatement requests denied.<\/p>\n
\tManfred has been open to changes since taking over as commissioner. He said last month that he\u2019d consider shortening the 162-game regular season and that he can envision an expansion to include new teams in Canada and Mexico.<\/p>\n
