I thought the question and answer would be of benefit to others. Thus, I am posting both the question and my answer here for all to see.

Question:

Within your post, you note: "I do not start my progression until I have collected 8 times (8 hits). I use chips in my rail to tell me which numbers I have hit and how many hits I have. "

I do use chips to count my hand, but this sounds like you’re counting each box number hit individually as well. How do you do this, especially given the small rail space on some tables?

Answer:

I use the bottom rail to count the hits and repeats. My betting and winning chips are all in my top rail. I lay a single chip, positionally in the bottom rail for every hit. I stack up multiple hits on the same number so that I can easily see when I am repeating numbers. I put a single chip in the far left position laying flat for a hit on the 4, a single chip to the right of it for a hit on the 5, and so forth with a single chip on the far right for a hit on the 10.

After eight hits, I put the chips back in the top rail and start all over counting my double parked hits in the same manner. At that point, I know if I am hitting any repeating numbers and take action based on what I decide to do about it if anything.

If I decide to go to a press and pull on a double parked number (because I am really hitting a specific number) I will use a larger denomination chip for a pull and a smaller one for a press. That way I know what to do on the next hit and don’t have to remember it in my head.

Replies:

Posted by: HardNine on February 20, 2015, 5:33 pm

Thanks for answering, Skinny, I love these kinds of tips!

Others, bring on more tips (with specifics).

Happy rolling, see many of you in AC!

Posted by: Jumbotron Ron on February 21, 2015, 3:49 pm

Great info Skinny! I have 2 questions. 1. Do you count the length of the roll at all? 2. Being that I don’t have the funds yet to max out on a 10x table, do you think it is better to go with a pass line bet 3x odds and 3 come bets 3x odds or a pass line bet 5x odds and 2 come bets 5x odds?

Posted by: Dr Crapology on February 21, 2015, 4:35 pm

Ron, I am no expert at the math of the game, but I will give this a shot as to what I have learned from Skinny, Dom, Finesse and many of the other instructors that have helped me over the years.

Bottom line, the more odds you can put on a given pass line bet and/or come bet the lower the house advantage (HA for short). So 3 bets with 3 times odds would have an ever so slightly higher HA over 2 bets with 5 times odds and one bet with 10 times odds would have the lowest HA. Should you venture to Shreveport/Bossier City Louisiana, where every casino in the area offer 20 or 100 times odds. 100 times odds brings the HA virtually zero. I can’t quote you the exact math but this only makes sense to me. I know I don’t have the bankroll for 100 times odds, so I bet less and in a long roll it is easy to increase one’s odds.

Hope that will help and if I am off base a little, surely someone will chime in.

An excellent question and one that will help others to learn. Is this a great web site or what???

Doc

Posted by: SevenTimesSeven on February 21, 2015, 5:08 pm

Doc,
I can see the math works for comparing two cases with different odds on the same flat bet
on one number.
But in this case isn’t Ron comparing essentially two cases of bets on different numbers,
with the difference in odds thrown in, resulting in spreading the numbers that
can be winners? Would the answer be somewhat more convoluted?
7×7

Posted by: Skinny on February 22, 2015, 9:24 am

Doc is correct. Say you have $10 on the line. Given Ron’s question we have two situations.

A. With 3 line bets and 3X odds you have $30 at risk with a 1.4% HA and $90 at risk with a 0% HA.

B. With 2 line bets and 5X odds you have $20 at risk with a 1.4% HA and $100 at risk with a 0% HA.

In both cases you are risking $120 but clearly B is the one with the lower HA.

One thing that A would have going for it is that it takes a bit longer to get your initial amount at risk on the table. When you seven out before getting up on the third number you save that one bet.

Never the less, I prefer B as a strategy. Furthermore, since I know you are an aggressive player, I think you could spread to 3 numbers after your first hit and then proceed with The Big Skinny as I originally laid it out from there on. With one hit in your rails you would be risking slightly less than $120 with 3 numbers having $180 on the table.

Posted by: Jumbotron Ron on February 22, 2015, 3:32 pm

Thanks buddy, I appreciate the insight.

I received a question regarding counting hits when using The Big Skinny from a student.
