\n\tTropicana plans to open a multilevel fitness complex with AtlantiCare in May, part of a larger renovation campaign at a resort that has emphasized nongambling offerings.
\n\tThe complex \u2014 on Brighton Avenue, adjacent to Bluemercury Spa \u2014 will be open to the public and unlike anything currently available in Atlantic City, Tropicana Entertainment CEO Tony Rodio said Friday.
\n\tThis isn\u2019t your average hotel gym, he said. \u201cThis is a full-service fitness center.\u201d
\n\tPlans calls for a 12,455-square-foot space complete with cardio and weight equipment, saunas and showers, as well as rooms for classes that include cycling, Zumba, yoga and tai chi.
\n\tBilled as AtlantiCare LifeCenter Fitness at Tropicana, the complex will be part of a $35 million renovation of Tropicana bankrolled by Tropicana Atlantic City Corp. and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, Rodio said.
\n\tHe said the LifeCenter will be staffed by AtlantiCare, who will run it as a tenant.
\n\tIn a statement, AtlantiCare CEO David Tilton said the LifeCenter at Tropicana will incorporate design elements and programming from a LifeCenter that opened in 2005 in Egg Harbor Township.
\n\tJohn Palmieri, executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, said in a statement that \u201cTropicana and AtlantiCare\u2019s partnership is the perfect example of the kind of innovative collaboration that will help to diversify Atlantic City\u2019s attractions and balance its economy.\u201d
\n\tOther planned renovations at Tropicana include an overhaul of the casino-hotel\u2019s Boardwalk facade with digital displays and a light show, plus retail additions elsewhere at the property.
\n\tRodio said that as Tropicana expands, he\u2019s particularly excited at the prospect of incorporating the larger casino-hotel experience into the LifeCenter by, for example, having yoga classes on the beach and Zumba class at the Boogie Nights dance club.
\n\tRodio said the LifeCenter will be fronted with glass, so the high-energy ambience of people exercising inside carries out onto the street.
\n\t\u201cPeople are going to be able to ride down Brighton Avenue and see that experience going on,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
