She has been diagnosed with leukemia and another condition. She has acute leukemia with one year to live. This is a very fast growing disease.<\/p>\n<p>\tWe are off tomorrow to the Dana Farber Cancer Inst. in Boston, where my cousin has a friend who is a specialist in leukemia .  Then, we come home for another consult. We want to be sure we will be doing the best treatment possible.<\/p>\n<p>\tIn any case, we will be starting treatment next week. I know your Doctors and Boston will do the best but Mayo Clinic and other are trying a drug call &quot;Azactidine&quot;. Study shows progress in elderly patients that just get diagnosed.<\/p>\n<p>\tJusy my two cents as I feel helpless in your treatments and recovery. But, we will offer up prayers. When I finally returned to my room, I had the nicest surprise: Mo Rick&#8217;s son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Erika, had come to visit me. We had a lovely visit, and it really perked me up.<\/p>\n<p>\tLast night vassilated between 103 fevers, and shaking non-stop.<\/p>\n<p>\tAnd so it begins. Let us all keep her in out positive thoughts and prayers.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t Sep 20 at 6:34 PM  <\/p>\n<p>\tfinished the three days of bolus antibiotics. Now on 4 more days of 24\/7 straight antibiotic. Hgb has gone down to 6.o so got 2 units of blood. very high temps for 3 days. normal now. Very low BP yesterday. Gave extra fluids to raise it. No have to take fluid off with diuretic. Quite a catch22 and a merry_go-round. Getting transfusions almost every day, with Benadryl to prevent a reaction, which puts me to sleep for 3-4 hours. Tend to wake up at 3am,, and then sleep the morning away. I do try to sit in the chair most of the day, whether asleep or awake, per orders of the cardiologist. I get very scared at night, so Charlie is still sleeping here with  me. Don&#8217;t know what I would do without him. Thank goodness he is healthy right now. He also brings me ice and drinks, which would take the aides forever.<\/p>\n<p>\tHappy Birthday Bobby. He is a great guy.   I am really saddened  to see them going through this storm.<br \/>\n\tI pray that she can beat this thing and return to her beloved casino crap with Charlie.<\/p>\n<p>\tI have seen people pull through may bleak prognosis and return to their life. My bone marrow was negative for any growth of bad cells. Yippee!!           I am not in remission yet. I have a lot of fevers, which make me very drowsy. I will be getting growth factor every day to promote growth of good white cells. Also, transfusions as needed.<\/p>\n<p>\tThanks to all my GTC fammily for all the prayers. If they are as good as expected she will enter the hospital next week(27th) for phase 2 of her treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\tLets keep those prayers going, we still have a long road ahead and we want to see Marilyn in AC next March. REMISSION!!!!  Today  we were told that by all accepted parameters, I am now officially in remission. Yippee!!<\/p>\n<p>\tHowever, the fight is not yet over. On Sunday I begin the consolidation phase, where I will be admittted for 6 days to receive more chemo. This cycle will be repeated for 3 times. However, if the cycle interferes with the holidays, I might delay a cycle for a week.<\/p>\n<p>\tI am working towards going to AC in March. However, the doctor also said that those who do very well during the induction phase, as I did, usually feel very short of breath and fatigued for many many months.<\/p>\n<p>\tSo please keep the prayers coming that I stay in remission. I firmly believe that my GTC family has helped enormously, just as you did when Sandtrap was in hospital. I have been going to the cancer clinic 3 times a week for labs and transfusions each time. Today I was told that all my blood counts are up, and I didn&#8217;t need any transfusions today.<\/p>\n<p>\tNot only that, but I only have to go once next week for labs. AND, I have been given the total week of Thanksgiving off! I am ecstatic!<\/p>\n<p>\tI will be admitted to the hospital 12\/1 for the 2nd week of chemo in the consolidation phase, and will be home on Saturday. Since chemo reaches its height in the body 7-10 days after the last dose, I expect not to feel to well the following week, but that&#8217;s ok. I will be getting a week of chemo, which is stronger than the &quot;induction&quot; phase, but for a shorter period of time.  The chemo hits its height in the b ody 7-10 days after the last dose, so that&#8217;s when I  don&#8217;t feel well.  I am now completely bald, which is not too wonderful to look at, but it&#8217;s better than losing my life.<\/p>\n<p>\tI will have a 2-3 week break, and then 1-2 more cycles. How many is dependent on how I accept each cycle; that is how sick I get. Also, how my blood counts do as far as returing close to normal and how quickly. <\/p>\n<p>\tWe had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my daughter and her family from MA, cousins, and 2 of Charlie&#8217;s children and their children. I hope all of you did also.<\/p>\n<p>\tPlease keep all the prayers coming. Was extremely ill with high fevers and shaking chills treated with demerol. This is very dangerous for someone with no immune system. The docs don&#8217;t know how I got it, but the slightest thing can affect me, that wouldn&#8217;t affect healthy people. Had transfusions of platelets and whole blood every day.<\/p>\n<p>\tDischarged on IV antibiotics, that I have to administer to myself. Doing well now, and was given this week off. Only have to go in next Wed. for labs and possible trasfusions.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tProbably going into hospital Jan. 5th for a week of chemo. This will be the 3rd cycle in the consolidation phase.<\/p>\n<p>\tPlease keep the prayers going. Doctor told us today that people with the bacteremia that I had frequently die, and that is why I am not allowed to travel right now. Glad I didn&#8217;t know that. Must get to hospital within 30-60 minutes if have a fever to start the IV antibiotics right away.<\/p>\n<p>\tI will probably go home Wednesday after the last chemo dose in the morning. If my labs stay normal for the next 3 weeks, then I will have full immunity and won&#8217;t have any restrictions. I will still have to go to the Cancer clinic once a month for several months, and then every 6 months for several times, and then once a year for forever to monitor my labs.<\/p>\n<p>\tThe docs say I am one of their strongest patients for my age. I told them I don&#8217;t let anything get me down. The last two weeks I have needed platelet and blood transfusions.<\/p>\n<p>\tThis week my blood counts have been coming up, and I didn&#8217;t need any transfusions. I have also graduated to once a week visits. When my counts get close to normal, I will go to the clinic once a month for two years, and then once a year.<\/p>\n<p>\tI have been given permission to travel, so I will definitely be in AC this week, and I will be a mentor. I do get tired, and sometimes my legs don&#8217;t work too well. If I have to walk a long distance I use a walker. For short distances I use a cane, and at home I don&#8217;t even use that.<\/p>\n<p>\tThank you for all your prayers, which I am very certain had an impact on my recovery.
