Rose was not available to see what I was doing wrong. Had to take care of this one myself. I knew it had something to do with my release as the dice were not level and hitting on the corner sending them sideways. Old Doc decided to get out the 24 by 36 inch mirror, place the mirror against the back wall and watch my throw. In just 2 throws I noticed that as I held my release my 1st finger was coming up short at release. Not a problem with the grip as I checked it out real carefully before throwing. I simply wasn’t keeping my fingers together at release.

Here is where DP’s idea came into play. I took two small pieces of flat toothpicks–a very small piece of thin card board will do–and placed them between my fingers. Made myself hold them in place through out the throw and the dice landed perfectly. Did this 10 times to get the feel and them started to throw without the toothpicks. Dice looking good now. Then I got out the chips and begin "keeping score" and counting the throws. The first was a nice profitable 16 and then followed with a good money maker of 34. This GTC stuff works, but like the pros on the PGA tour they have to practice and get advice from instructors–and self critique on the course. We are no different.

Self critique is most important for each of us as is getting help from other GTC players and of course taking the lessons offered during a GTC weekend. Just want to share with others on this site. Hope it will help.

Doc

Replies:

Posted by: MIDNIGHT on August 26, 2014, 11:32 am

Amazing that you are able to correct that yourself so quickly. If you open your hand you will not feel that. Once you get that feel, it is easier to replicate it and keep your hand closed. Make sure you are using reasonably new dice with sharp edges. That also makes it easier to feel them roll off the tips of the fingers.

"Skinny" wrote: [quote="Dice Pilot"]

Here is the link to the wisdom page.
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=471&p=833&hilit=toothpick#p833

Use the following link instead. More pressure must be applied to
maintain any control. This pressure is quite light and only slightly more than with the 3 finger front. You must also open the "C" just a little. I believe this is necessary as you have no pressure on the outside of the dice. The first few times, one of them came out and floated through the air as the dice left. I tightened things up a bit for a number of throws and got some new muscle memory going. Gluing those fingers together through release has made dramatic changes. In fact in practice on Saturday, I rolled an 85. That is a personal best for me. Wish it would have happened in real combat with the casinos, but that kind of a roll shows that it ‘can’ happen.
