With that being said Alligator Rose and Doc would rather have a root canal than head to Vegas–or any gambling destination for that matter—during a big weekend such as the 4th, New Years, Super Bowl, etc. We want to have smallish crowds with tables somewhat empty. As a matter of fact we very seldom go to a gambling destination on Friday and Sat nights. We love mid week, mid week being Sunday through Thursday. Also easier to get comped or discounted rooms. During prime weekends the room rates go through the roof and room comps are hard to get unless you are a really big player.

We know that the old day time job can get in the way but we are self employed and near retirement and have more flexibility. This works for us. We have been in various gambling destinations in the past and experienced similar situation as you described.

Just a few thoughts from the peanut gallery.

Rose and Doc

Posted by: brothelman on July 1, 2014, 4:48 pm

yes with the 4th on Friday it will be crazy they close the streets down for this one.

Posted by: Pit Boss on July 1, 2014, 4:55 pm

ScarletGold:

July is a very slow time in Las Vegas. I have spent many long weekends there. The crowds are subdued, the weather is really hot, but I like it that way, the fireworks are spectacular. The table are still full unless you play early in the morning. The pools will have a lot of young parties as they convert to day clubs. But a lot of the hotels have sections that are far enough away to not feel the beating of the bass drum from the million watt sound systems.

The fireworks start at bout 9 pm at many hotels. Not sure if they area synchronizing them throughout the strip this year like they have done in the past. On July 5th, there will be a fireworks show over Lake Las Vegas. This is nice place to see the fireworks as well. http://www.montelagovillage.com/the-village-at-lake-las-vegas/events/

Let us know how it went.

Posted by: ScarletGold on July 1, 2014, 9:29 pm

Thank you all for your help.
Since the consensus seems to be "worse than a normal weekend but not as bad as New Years", we’ll give it a shot and let you know how it went.

Posted by: Pit Boss on July 4, 2014, 3:38 pm

Just i ncase you’re reading he thread while on vaction

Fourth of July fireworks shows for 2014
There is no shortage of festive Fourth of July celebrations planned in Southern Nevada. The middle of the Strip was crowded, but not extremely. Table minimums were not raised, with the lone exception of one table which had a minimum of $500 – it was empty. Mrs. ScarletGold and I were able to find tables with SL1 (for her) and SR1 (for me) open without much trouble.

This was our first outing after the June Las Vegas GTC Primer, and we worked to apply what we had been taught. Mrs. SG had two long rolls back to back, and I had a long roll at each of two different casinos.

As to the Five-Count: I am convinced that somewhere out there is a malevolent, very smart Chief Chicken Feeder who is teaching his minions to beat the five count, and to never repeat the ending box number – this happened to each of us repeatedly!

Even with this, we still had a successful trip. GTC’s methods worked for us, and we brought home a bank which was 50% larger than the one we took to Vegas.

Our thanks to Alligator Rose and the rest of the GTC instructors. This was the first time we had beaten the House on a trip in a number of years.

Happy Rolling.
ScarletGold

Posted by: The WoW Man on July 10, 2014, 1:20 pm

Winning is the most fun!! 😀
Continued success.

Catch you later!

Posted by: Dr Crapology on July 10, 2014, 8:35 pm

So glad you had a good time and that you found the tables were not too crowded.
