\tAs an engineer, SCUBA instructor and musician, for all my life I try to be aware of my surroundings while I do various things.<\/p>\n

\tYET, to get into a ZONE (as described by many) I find my mind always being distracted by the surroundings.<\/p>\n

\tHow or what can I do, practice, learn, to try to ignore the surroundings?<\/p>\n

\tThe last two outings ( which included today) I was throwing nicely, but I found myself being slightly distracted by various things. <\/p>\n

\tToday I did well, so much so with hardways, that the young man who bought in, gave me a tip after I colored up. He was on all the hardways for $5, and I hit all of them, and a couple of them twice.<\/p>\n

\tSo if there are suggestions or ideas I would appreciate them.<\/p>\n

Most of us get distracted when at the table, especially when a longer that ususal period of time is experienced between rolls–such things as a long pay off or a dispute over a payoff. I find that I tune it out as best I can by concentrating on the dice while they are in the middle so I know exactly what I need to do to easliy set the dice. Another thing is to pick something behind the pit such as a slot machine sign and concentrate on it. Lastly, where I normally stand at SL1, I am directly in front of the number nine in the field area of the felt. I concentrate on it.<\/p>\n

\tThese are ideas I have picked from others in the past. You just have to learn how to think through these things. It takes time but will come as you progress in your GTC journey.<\/p>\n

Timmer uses earplugs to eliminate most of the distractions. It works well be he never hears me saying press, press, press!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Continuing with distractions – I guess the sounds do not bother me but I am always scanning around me in real life. So at the table even though I concentrate on my spot to throw to, I feel myself being eye distracted. <\/p>\n

\tDoc, I will have to try the in front ( either a machine or number or the dice) on my next visit.<\/p>\n

\tFrom some of the older posts I got the feeling of being in the zone being able to turn the outside world out and just focus on the throw! I am part way there, but I have a way to go, like a number of us.<\/p>\n

\tThanks for the suggestions, because of my recent trip to Denver and playing in a total different arena, with other GTC people, my shot ( my opinion) seemed to improve a bunch. So much so I had two GOOD sessions in a row, both technique wise and profit wise.<\/p>\n

CIII – I have that CD and it helps me stay prepared for going to the casino. That is using the technique to practice your throw in your mind, over and over again.<\/p>\n

\tBut at the casino, I know from the past when I am throwing it seems to get real quiet, as tune out the noise but the distractions of people moving is harder to tune out. A life long habit is hard to turn off at a moments notice.<\/p>\n
