{"id":6957,"date":"2014-02-09T18:13:23","date_gmt":"2014-02-09T18:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumarchives.tmsites.net\/index.php\/2014\/02\/09\/mgm-faces-fines-for-blocking-gaming-agent-access\/"},"modified":"2014-02-09T18:13:23","modified_gmt":"2014-02-09T18:13:23","slug":"mgm-faces-fines-for-blocking-gaming-agent-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumarchives.tmsites.net\/index.php\/2014\/02\/09\/mgm-faces-fines-for-blocking-gaming-agent-access\/","title":{"rendered":"MGM faces fines for blocking gaming agent access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- Original Post Content --><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i59.tinypic.com\/23uc6r7.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\tBy HOWARD STUTZ<br \/>\n\tLAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL<br \/>\n\tThe Gaming Control Board filed a two-count complaint Friday against the Aria Hotel-Casino and MGM Resorts International for blocking two state gaming agents from observing wagering activity in the CityCenter resort\u2019s high-limit casino area.<\/p>\n<p>\tAria could be fined $25,000 to $250,000 for each count, according to Nevada gaming law.<\/p>\n<p>\tUnless a settlement is reached, a hearing on the matter will be held in front of the Nevada Gaming Commission at a date to be determined. MGM Resorts owns 50 percent of CityCenter and operates the Aria, the centerpiece of the Strip development.<\/p>\n<p>\tAccording to the complaint, state gaming agents were observing the play of two customers on a roulette table in Aria\u2019s \u201cSalon Prive\u201d when their view was blocked. The agents, who had not yet identified themselves as agents, were roughly \u201c5 to 7 feet\u201d from the roulette table.<\/p>\n<p>\tAn Aria casino supervisor told the agents the players \u201cdid not want to be watched.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\u201cOne of the agents asked if all casino games were open to the public and the agent was told \u201cobservation of the roulette game was not welcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tThe Aria floor supervisor said security would be called to stand between the board agents and the roulette table if needed.<\/p>\n<p>\tAccording to the complaint, MGM Resorts had been warned in the past about similar violations at the company\u2019s \u201cother luxury brands\u201d going back to 2010 and \u201chas historically been aware of the need for vigilance in ensuring that the public has access to gaming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tAccording to the complaint, MGM Resorts told the control board in early 2013 the company had taken steps at \u201ceach of the MGM\u2019s luxury properties, including the Aria, to ensure public access to gaming would not be restricted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tThe control board said MGM Resorts failed \u201cto conduct gaming operations in accordance with proper standards of custom, decorum and decency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\tControl Board officials declined comment.<\/p>\n<p>\tIn an emailed statement, MGM Resorts spokesman Gordon Absher said the company \u201crepects the Gaming Control Board greatly and acknowledge that our employee did not follow company procedures in this instance. Aria is committed to a high level of regulatory compliance and looks forward to resolving this matter in the near future.
