True I knew nothing of tipping, so maybe that is why? Because soon as I took a class, I learned about tipping and started doing it whenever I get the dice. Let me explain what I mean. It seems now every time I take a casino trip at least once and often times more than once, the stick person or dealers feel compelled to let me know what I am doing DOES NOT WORK! Could it be that they don’t want me to lose any money? They really care about me! Amazing.

This past Vegas class, I bought in and the dice was passed to me. I set the dice, grip them, got in my stance, and I hear the Stickman saying, “HEY, HEY, HEY” while at the same time he is tapping my right arm with which I am holding the dice with the back of his left hand. “HEY, HEY, HEY” I looked up at him and said “ WHAT! What’s wrong?” He said, “YOU KNOW THAT DOESN’T WORK!, right?” Oh I’m sorry I don’t remember asking you if this worked or not. LOL, I did not say that but I was thinking it. I said “What doesn’t Work?” He said “The way you are throwing them. You know the stance and everything. You must have watched one of those Videos online, believe me It doesn’t work!” now usually I just ignore them or just agree and continue on, but it was morning and I was grumpy, no coffee yet, and I just said sort of laughing “Pray tell me, what does work?” I was just curios what he would say. He looked at me kind of funny, and said “I don’t know, I just know that doesn’t work” I just said “Oh ok”. Now I threw 6 for my point 3 throws later I threw the six again, and he looked at me and said “See I told you it doesn’t work,” and laughed.

I actually had quite of few instances this past vegas trip of them telling me it does not work or asking me if I took a class etc…It sure is funny how I have never heard a dealer tell the guy who takes forever setting the dice, then snapping their fingers then turning around 3 times and then slinging it down the table that that does not work.

I had another instance where these new players showed up and the dealers and floor person was explaining the game and how to do certain things. Somehow the conversation turned to throwing the dice and the floor person told me that I must have read the book, no title, just “THE BOOK.” Now this is a floor person I really like and at a casino that I really like. So I told him, “buddy, I have read every book there is to read on Craps, and I still have my day job, so what does that tell you?” And he just laughed and said “yea I know,” I said “it’s a tough game but I love it.”

Tom and I bought in at a higher end casino, and the stick person actually started mocking me! WTF,(that is what the Fudge), this was after my first throw, he said loudly, “ You guys must have taken the seminar?” But it was said with the mannerism as you would say, sort of frustrated, like look at these idiots. I said “what?” he replied “You know, you got make sure you get on your toes, sort of giggling.” I was like, “is that right?” He said “yep,” as he is rising up on his toes. This is the same table that every time they took a tip from my bet, they never said thank you once. So needless to say, I did not play there long.

I have notice also the other side of the spectrum as well, Just not all that often. Tipping is a powerful tool. Once in a casino in LA, I was on a real good roll, and someone bought in and put there chips right in the landing zone, I looked up and was thinking come on really? Before I set the dice the stick person took his stick and moved the chips right out of the way and looked at me and said, your landing zone is clear! LOL, so some dealers know what’s up!

I did notice that a lot of times, the floor person will watch us more closely than the random player, I used to think it was to make sure we were hitting the back wall, now I wander if they have seen some players have success with it and some not, so they are just watching, being a spectator. I mean if I had to watch this game and 95% percent of the time people just shook the dice and threw them down the table, and all of the sudden, this person, or group of people came to the table and where all methodical with their throw, I would watch too. After all, it does look cool! Who knows for sure, it just sure is interesting.

Why does the GTC throw get scrutinized so much? Is it because they really care about us? LOL, I don’t think so.

Replies:

Posted by: Finisher on October 28, 2013, 12:47 am

Louis On this last trip I had one dealer ask if I would change my 1.00 pass line bet for them to the FIRE . A lot of times we get attention because they are bored and we are doing something different. They comment on it because it gives them something to talk about.

I find humor often deflects their comments and can be helpful. When they tell me it does not work, I agree and say something like, "Yeah, I know it does not work. But I like to look good when I lose my money." That usually draws a laugh and they leave me alone after that.

If they say it looks like a read "The Book" I say, "I did and that is where I learned about tipping the dealers. The book said I should tip because you guys are working hard trying to help me have a good time."

Just a couple of more ideas for your tool box.

Posted by: Dr Crapology on October 28, 2013, 11:47 am

Louis, always a pleasure to roll with you—especially with your 39 roll (which I counted while blocking for you). Your comments were right on. Skinny is correct that humor will deflect a lot of this—I like the part about how "THE BOOK" taught me how to tip. My usual comment is and I quote "Yea, I read the stupid book but I probably paid to D*** much for it, but it can’t hurt."

Alligator Rose usually says something to the effect of "my husband read the book and taught me. I hope he knows what he is talking about?" Probably a good question.

Just keep on rolling, playing the game we love, and tipping.

Speaking of tipping, during the 39 roll mentioned above I noticed that all of the GTC players had a pass line for the dealers and as the roll progressed (after may roll # 25) several GTC’ers had $6 on the 6 & 8 and these bets were up to $24 and since we were controlling the bet, the 6 an 8 hit a couple of time before the 7 showed it’s head. Several $28 wins for the dealer are appreciated. I heard nothing but thank you over and over.

Great post, as usual.

Alligator Rose and Doc

Posted by: Mr Finesse on October 28, 2013, 1:12 pm

I always enjoy reading the post’s on our GTC site and This is a great one.
