What I experienced serves as a reminder of all things we know from GTC. I had a number of good sessions with some decent profit yet I did not see another winner at the tables all weekend. Instead, all who came and threw left losers. Except me. Here is why:
Every player who came to the table from $5 to $50 limits, had no plan, no strategy. They threw random, they bet random, they did not 5 count. I outlasted every person at each session.
I five counted every roller. When I threw I, I was conservative until I passed the 5 count. I had my stinkers, but they did not hurt that much.
I had staying power. When the good rolls came, I was able to capitalize.

At some point, at each of the sessions, a full table became a one man table (me), then a good roll, and the table would fill up. By the time the dice went around the table, most of those players were gone. Another roll and the table would fill up. And so on and so on. Only I was able to remain at the table with funds for the next good throw.

At one table a guy comes up and colors 20g. He makes a few bucks on me. He then takes the dice and proceeds to lose the 20g on the next 4 shooters. By the time the dice come to me, he is gone. I have a good throw. He comes back during my shoot and colors 10g. Again he makes a few bucks. He then takes the dice, craps out in 4 throws, and continues to bet the bank on each roller. Loses it all again. Not once despite standing right next to me, does he ask why I am not betting other rollers.

On another occasion, at a different casino on the boardwalk, I cannot find a spot at any 10 or 25 table. I take a shot at the $50 table where I can get my spot. Again the same scenario. They come, lose a bundle and leave.
The dice come to me. I can only do a pass line with single odds. A $60 six and eight. I have a good roll. I make two points with a few 6 and 8’s in between. I am feeling good. A guy walks up while the dice are in my hand and drops a wad of 100’s on the table. I shudder, but shoot and establish a 4 point.
They finish counting the guy. He had apparently told them he wanted a don’t pass bet. He bought in at 16g. They pop most of it on the dont pass with odds. I lock and load, throw a few numbers, hit a 6 and an eight with my measly $60 on them. Then I throw a 4 and make the point. The guy loses most. Picks up and leaves. I take the dice, establish a point and then crap out. Again, if he had only had patience or a plan. But he had none, so he was a loser too!

In any event, if I was ever tempted not to 5 count, this weekend was a reminder that it would be a mistake. The only other shooter who threw and managed well was an guy who was throwing from the end of the table with a GTC throw and set, just like we were taught. Never got to talk to him, but he had a great roll. He was the only other shooter all weekend who had a roll to make money on.

All in all, I would say that GTC and its methods played well in AC this weekend.

Replies:

Posted by: Mr Finesse on February 19, 2013, 2:49 pm

Tony M,

Great to read your post, what you said happens every day in every casino in the world.

The money spent on GTC classes can be returned just by learning to use the 5-count properly and never becoming a great shooter. Winning years as opposed to losing years.
There is no doubt that GTC works. There will always be doubters…but done right you have the best chance to win learning the throw and the betting.
I have always said that the GTC investment has paid tremendous dividends. I have won many times over what I have invested in the GTC method.

I tell prospective students that after the first class I managed to win enough over some time to buy a rig. Craps is about two things – math & physics. You can not beat the math, but you can skew the physics just abit with a controlled throw. Learn to work with the math, and learn to reduce the numbers of sevens you throw, because as Dom always says, "Winning is the most fun!"

Posted by: GameDay on February 22, 2013, 8:54 pm

To all:
I can’t wait to get to class in March to get "refreshed".
Just seeing your responses has sent me to the practice table with renewed vigor.
One note: Goddess mentions Sandtraps 90. I missed that toss. But I was there for his 50 and boy was that sweet. Jack says I am considered a GEORGE. I do what we are taught at class and it works wonders. Every once in a while, when I am clicking on a throw and I have 2 come bets up, I will throw a dollar on top of the come bet for the dealers. If things are really clicking, when I give my odds, I give the dealers odds too. This really makes them attentive to my action and puts them in the game. They love it. I use this sparingly so it does not become routine. They absolutely love it.

Lastly, just a funny story. I don’t know if Missouri Rick will remember this but a couple of years ago we found ourselves at the same table….me at stick L2 and Rick at stick L1. I don’t remember who is throwing, he or I, but at the time, Rick and I were taking up the entire left side of the table. In any event, one of us lost our balance and fell into the other and there we were like two weebles or dominoes going down. Only a quick grab on the rail saved us from utter embarrassment. It was funny. I don’t know if Rick remembers this but I was laughing hysterically as were the dealers. If I remember correctly, it was an early morning shoot and Rick had a great roll. Good to see he is back, safe and sound.

Posted by: Dominator on February 22, 2013, 9:59 pm

Tony, That reminds me how no one wants to really be next to me, because I usually knock someone over! 😆

Great story!

Dominator

Posted by: MissouriRick on February 23, 2013, 3:59 pm

Yes Tony- I do remember that, and we wern’t even drinking!
And to Dom, I will stand by you any time.
