I do think there will always to some craps tables as the customers will demand them. That being said, the casinos would perfer to do away with all table games. In most cases the slots/video poker machines have a high vig in favor of the casino way up in the double digits on. This is true for many machines but not all. With slots they do not have to have (read pay) dealers, and other pit supervisors so it is a two edge sword in the casino’s favor—better house edge and less salary to manage the machines. The casinos know that the machines cannot be beat in the long run. Walk around any casino and you see that some 80% of the floor space is devoted to machines.

My take is that we will see fewer craps tables but they will not go away entirely. AND there will always be a few casinos that will give the customers what they want—games where the player has a chance and games that the players love to play. These casinos will probably have multiple craps tables.

My $.02 worth.

Doc

Posted by: Finisher on November 7, 2012, 4:43 am

I think that when WE all get those surveys to ask when are They going to have a craps tournament . They have 6 tables available with 2 always open.
At noon if the 2 tables were crowded they would open a third. Not anymore.
The 2 tables had 12 players per table and not one spot opened for the 2 hours that I watched them.
Got back in my car and drove 3 hours back home without touching a pair of dice. That sucked and I probably won’t return there until those conditions change

The weekends seem to be a different story.
In AC a couple of weeks ago we found a lot more tables open and most of them were at least 3/4 full.

As in all things today the bottom line will be the math. The casino bean counters will prevail!
It takes 3 dealers and a box man to man a craps table, so 4 people. And you can have possibly 12 players give or take.
At a BJ table a single dealer can deal to 6 players. So potentially those 4 dealers could possibly serve 24 players instead of 12.

This is without even mentioning the space which the tables are taking away from the real or should I say reel money makers.
I’m sure every time a bean counter looks at 4 empty craps tables they are looking at the potential of an additional 50 or more slot machines.

Here is where we as players should be more proactive.
When we go to a casino and all the craps tables are full we need to go to the pit boss and have a little chat.
Ask him politely if there is a possibility of another table opening.
Or if would be better to come back at a different time.
Is there an actual schedule as to times of tables opening?
In general make some small talk and let him know that they are missing an opportunity of having you and others play.
Also let him know that you are going to get in your car and go home without placing a single bet.
Be nice about it but get your point across .

May the dice be with you T-Burg

Posted by: Guest on November 18, 2012, 1:09 am

No, where I play they increased the tables from 3 to 5.
