Yes, before they determined their edge in stone they were betting green and black, because they figured that with enough attempts per session and a stop-loss in the low 4 digits, they could make something happen. Red chippers many times lose in the high 3 digits so they aren’t too far off.

When betting $25 minimum, the multiplier effect on a win is quite remarkable, compared with a $10 minimum (good, but leaves you wanting more), or with a $5 minimum (negligible!! a moderately good hand will never net you large sums with our standard betting method. Also, you will accumulate mostly white chips as you do your initial presses, and need longer rolls to net something noticeable.)

So it’s a matter of deep pockets, discipline so as not to lose around $100 every time a chicken feeder bombs, and comfort level.
FYI, I myself am a red chipper and loooooove $5 tables.

Posted by: Dominator on October 26, 2012, 12:10 pm

Agame is correct. That happened to me and I got too nerves and 7nd out then left. I think it will be different next time I hope . There was only 3 at the table when this High roller bought in for 10,000.00 which threw me off a little since there was only 3 at the table.
I have not gotten to the point were I have had my bets pressed to 25.00 yet let alone start off that way but maybe some day.
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Posted by: Dr Crapology on October 27, 2012, 11:19 am

Dom, is correct, as bank roll is a major consideration. I would also add that the mental ability to handle the larger bets is important. No matter the size of my bankroll, a $25 table is a little much for Alligator Rose and I at this time. Remember the more you bet, the bigger the swings will be between wins and loses—and yes the losses will occur on some short rolls and bad sessions. It has been our experience the wins on the larger swings will be greater than the losses in the long run.

I ofter tell students that GTC dice control/advantage play is a journey and not a destination. You are always working on your skills both throwing and betting. Advancing to a larger minumum table ($25) is a part of that journey.

There was a time that a $5 table was all I could emotionally handle. They I played a few $10 tables and am now very comfortable there. The $15 tables are becoming a little more common and I have become a little more confortable there–the journey mentioned above.

What I have found is that I don’t mind the larger minumim tables as much when Rose and I or other known GTC players are throwing, its betting the larger amount on chicken feeders that bothers me. So we try and stay in our confort zone.

Remember, as with any athletic endeavor, what is happening between the ears is most important. I have heard it said that in golf that it is at least 85% mental and I think the same holds true for dice control/advantage play.

Doc and Alligator Rose

Posted by: GaryK on October 29, 2012, 4:04 pm

The real thing to ask yourself, is what is the real purpose of playing at this table?

You can bet anything you like even at a $3 table. When things get tough it’s nice to be able to drop to the minimum instead of having to bet $25.
When I play the $25 it is for a couple of reasons; One, I can usually get SL1 position and the second is the level of shooters. Whether random or controlled, less chance of people betting late, starting arguments and other distractions that can take away from the ability to concentrate, control and win.

To answer your question, I tend to buy in at least 100 times the table min.. $5 dollar table $500, $25 table $2500.
