I fully understand i may be as far away
getting an answer to this ramblng as Obama is from understanding how to run
a country…. the gap may well be to wide to bridge.

The source of my mental indigestion is the controlled throw as it compares to
nothing.. By this i mean last night the Wisconsin 6 shooters again met on the field
of battle…. and keeping with complete disclosure…. we won…again

But on this small table our throws looked very good, when you compared them to
where we all started years ago it is signficant . No comparison to a ramdom throw.

We won…. but not alot…. i am surely not complaining..but when you watch the
toss , you would think we could never lose. If you would have improved this much in
bowling you would go from 120 ave to 220, or golf from 20 handicap to a 4 and so on
yet we find if we find we barely win.

Maybe for low betters the margin of advantage is so small we should be happy we can win.
Now i admit i could be bias in looking at our throws. But i think the gap between where we
were and are is wide, and i would not think it should be that hard to win.. We all have a way we look at things. Growing up here in south Texas, I learned from my rancher grandfather that "Pigs get fat; hogs get slaughtered". I look not at my buy in when I get in the game, but at my initial ‘at risk’ investment and figure a fat return from that number. I"ve found that the thing that costs most GTC players the most money is overplaying. Before dice control, my idea was to hang in at a table for hours if need be, in order to catch a wave and make some money. That is a long term losing strategy, but I still see GTC players at the tables for a very long time sometimes. I’ve learned to discipline myself and use what I call the ‘Scoblete rule’ and quit if 3 turns with the dice do not show some results. That means a total of three tries with the dice by me or any of my team members. If it is three losing turns, I’m gone. Period. If its equivocal after 3 turns, I might dip a couple of more times. But, what does a pig do vs a hog, if there’s a win.

Let’s say I’m a $10 player and I get up on 2 numbers initially…the 6 and the 8 at $60 each. That is often how I start–with two numbers…not always the 6 and 8 (I’m not a place bettor by strategy)..but with two numbers the most you can have at risk for a given hand is $120. In my mind, I call that my ‘at risk’ investment for the entire 3 tries at the session. This is a very conservative, so no need to get a debate started on strategy. The all out 3# approach of the Big Skinny is just too adrenalistic for my glands!

To make a long story short, let’s say I lose a little on the first try and on the second try ( if we hit a number with two $60 bets and then 7 out, we’ve still lost only around $50), but on the third go around I or a team member has a streak where I/he/she hits 5 numbers. Since I’ve already lost, say, $150 or thereabouts on unsuccessful tries, I end up with a net profit of $200…(this is oversimplified, but 5 hits x $70/hit = $350 less $150 losses made up in the streak=$200 more than I started with)

$200 / $120 at risk = just under a 60% return on investment or 1.666 times your initial investment. I’d take that return all day long as an investor on a real estate deal, and in a disciplined, hit and run dice game the return happens in less than an hour in all likelihood. Now…hog strategy would be to stay there and keep playing after that and see what happens…

And…a good thing to remember when posting is that not everyone shares your political views, which I would keep to a minimum on a forum dedicated to gaming. I’d say Bin Laden and Khadafi both probably thought Obama couldn’t run the country either.

Alamo

Posted by: Guest on August 21, 2012, 7:14 pm

Be honest now. Now you improve quite a bit. You’d be happy to be at 50. That is some significant improvement.

With controlled shooting everyone is starting in the minus category. Think of what your average losses were when you were a random player? Now you win. The continuum between the losing player you were and the winning player you are now is probably immense. I don’t actually expect you to know what your averages were over the years when you were a random roller but you get the picture.

Your increase because of skill is probably much bigger than you give yourself credit for.
