We had some great students and it seemed that they really caught on quick. All of the team of instructors Dom put together gave it their best.

For me it is always such a great reminder of the way teaching works. The student learns and quite honestly so does the instructor. I never come away without a couple of aha moments.

I have always struggled with hand position at the end of my toss. Over and over again I witness students struggling to maintain their grip position as the dice leave their hand. Depending on what the hand is doing the dice no longer leave the three fingered grip perpendicular to the back wall. This can easily cause on die to flip and be mistaken for a double pitch seven.

This particular case is not a grip issue, but and end of toss hand motion issue. A great bit of advice to anyone struggling with an issue like this is to tackle one thing at a time. If it is a wandering backswing or a grip issue, focus on one thing at a time.

Sometimes in a live casino session, it is where our excitement and adrenaline can get the best of us. This is where diligent, disciplined practice comes in. Be disciplined and nail the details. Do the NFF drill in front of the mirror and make sure everything is lined up perfectly. Have someone give you honest feedback. Don’t get consumed in outcomes, but focus on perfect form.

Good rolling to all of you and looking forward to Memphis.

Replies:

Posted by: Dr Crapology on February 17, 2022, 3:19 pm

Excellent post. All very positive suggestions on how to perfect your grip and throw. Rose and Doc hope to see everyone at a class in the near future.

Posted by: HardNine on February 23, 2022, 2:53 pm

Yes indeed!

I think of what Alligator Rose told me in Shreveport at my second Refresher. She was watching my hand and gave me what in my mind is my “BACK OF THE HAND” reminder. Although all hints aren’t for everyone, we keep trying until something clicks with an individual, what she caught and told me has stuck with me. At the end of my toss, reach for the rail and keep your knuckles aligned to the rail. My reminder is “BACK OF THE HAND”, I have it on a little card in my wallet that I can pull it out when I’m struggling… along with a few others that catch me from time to time. When my knuckles are aligned with the rail, so are my fingers and I haven’t rolled the dice over.

Posted by: Big Al on February 28, 2022, 12:12 am

Hi There! I set up a practice rig in my office, so I can practice during a break. I was throwing poorly… hitting 7 with every 5 or 5 throws with the 5/4 Hardway set.

I set up a Video camera and found my mistakes. It was the same thing Hard 9 saw in Vegas. My release was canted and fingers were not even on the dice -> the dice were rotating off axis and at different spin rates.

I will focus on my grip and back of the hand!

I have a couple nice screen grabs of what not to do. 🙂

Thanks again for the coaching!

Posted by: Dr Crapology on February 28, 2022, 2:43 pm

Self critique is a must. Be sure to come back for a refresher so that the instructors can take you to a higher level. Look forward to meeting you in person in the future.

Rose and Doc

Posted by: High Arc on February 28, 2022, 6:59 pm

@aplummer Many people take the first class learn the mechanics of the shot, but as time goes by the little mistakes start to take over. When this happens you start to second guess your shot mechanics. This is why it’s best to take another class to have the instructors evaluate your toss. I have and it has helped me.
