AC is not a tourist destination the way Las Vegas is. AC is visited by those who can either drive there, or take a bus. There won’t be too many people from the west, midwest, or international countries going to AC. They would have to fly into Philadelphia. There are very few things to attract "tourists" as such.

Not only does Revel not offer comps, but they charge exorbitant prices for rooms. We were told a weekday room starts at $234. No one going to AC pays that rate. Rooms are comp’d for frequent visitors, or at the least, much much cheaper than Revel. AC during mid-week tends to be geriatric city, and the gamblers tend to come from near-by areas. They expect comps and inexpensive rooms. The weekends and holidays bring a younger crowd.

However, everyone expects to get something for their gambling losses. Comp’d meals and rooms are what bring people back to AC. Weekend shows are comp’d or two for one tickets for frequent gamblers. Even high level gamblers expect something in return for their losses, or even if they do win. Low level gamblers definitely want a reason to return.

When Revel opened with its publicized marketing philosophy, everyone was saying that they wouldn’t last long in the AC market.
That seems to now be the case.

Goddess

Posted by: Scan on July 16, 2012, 12:12 pm

Beautiful casino. Lots to offer but will never be my "home" casino.
They started off on the wrong foot and alienated people.
Their "we are doing this our way" attitude conveyed
an arrogance.
AC is a locals market. That is just the way it is. The people in the surrounding areas for the most part are sophisticated. If they want to go to a resort for vacation they will hop on a plane and go to an island in the Bahamas, or maybe head to Aruba, Mexico etc. The Revel strategy of
thinking people would use the little spare time they had and spend a week at a relatively tiny pool was asinine.
They also opened up with a two night minimum stay requirement another bad move most players shoot down to AC gamble have dinner and a cocktail of two then gamble some more before passing out in the room. Next morning they jump in the car and head back to the world where they have a lot of responsibilities. They do not have time to stay a second night.
The decision to not have a buffet was a giant mistake. The lower limit level gamblers that fuel AC particularly in the winter love buffets. They do not want to sit down for a $175 per person, two hour meal at American Cut.

They also started out with a policy of not matching tier status for established players. If a person is a Diamond player at Caesar’s properties they are not likely to start at the lowest rung and fight to work their way up. Revel has now changed the policy but in many cases it is too late.

Finally, Whether it is accurate or not the internet message boards are rife with posts about Revel being tigjtvwith comps. This has become the conventional thinking and comp seekers are avoiding Revel.

Posted by: TheUsualSuspect on July 16, 2012, 3:08 pm

Miss M, You and Scan are right on with your accessment of Revel, all the best to Mr. C. Since I could not check my comps from the web site I have not idea what I may have earned so even there the lack of feedback on your play is annoying.

I DO think that all of the staff were very very nice and it seems they have gone out of thier way to select thier staff and training them.

Many of the older casinos have dealers that seem unattentive, bored, untalkative and in general just not any fun. Craps I am looking for the table with the right action, for Blackjack having a fun dealer will keep me at the table longer. In either case the attitude of the dealers effect my over all enjoyment of any game.

I have a house near by so I have never stayed in a room at any of the casinos, but I do like how the Borgata clear lets me see from the reward part of thier web site when I can stay free or at a a discounted rate, what all my perks are and what specials are going on.

Posted by: Guest on July 17, 2012, 2:03 pm

Revel has an interesting hiring practice.
