Craps

Trip Report – Casino with long table and a random roller who was crushing the 9

Spread the love

After my shellacking 2 weeks ago at my home casinso, the itch to play started to resurface. I had a doctor’s appointment in the city, and there is a casino 3 miles from the doc’s office…so you know what happened. This place has a normal craps table, but it opens at $25 and by 3pm, it’s $50. That’s crazy money for a guy like me. But so many people are buying in for 1-2 K and then just throwing the dice like crazed people…hundreds on the line and no thought to how they
throw…that’s just scary, but was interesting to watch from a distance. The table slowly gobbled
up their money.

They have a 2nd craps table that is either 14 or 16 feet long – it is HUGE!! You have to shoot
from the end, no choice. There are video terminals to the side and you sit down and play
electronic craps from a terminal, but you are betting on a real person really throwing the dice.  There is a camera above the table that shows the roll.  This is nicer with a pass line minimum of $10. But you can’t shoot SL1 and it’s a long way to the back wall. The upside is that there is no late betting, chips in the way or anything like that…just a long fareway of green felt leading up to the alligator skin. The same throwing style clientele play this table as in the aforementioned table, but with less buy in I would guess. Can’t tell as they all have their own terminals and you can’t see what they are betting. But wild throwing…almost mad throwing…with abandon. Some would roll 5-10 while others would 7 out fast. I got up 3 times and never made it past 8. The dice felt “wrong” in my hands, but I can’t explain why. I’ve played here before and it never felt like that…just one of those things I guess. I stayed for about an hour, lost $50 and then called it a wrap. I then walked over to the $50 table and watched that drama unfold and lived vicariously through them plunking down big money.

I logged a random roller who was winging the dice down the green…had a good
run. I didn’t start betting on him till the end, and eventually broke even on him. That said, if I 5
counted him, I would have made some good money on the 9. But I didn’t because of the
recklessness of his throw…I was going to by-pass him all together. Look at those 9’s…that’s
incredible I think.

6 (point) then 9 9 8 9 10 9 5 9 9 9 9 10 12.  Those last 4 nines in a row were all 6-3.  If I had gotten in on the 9’s from the get-go, that could have been a good payday.  But I listen to the 5 count and sometimes don’t even bet then because of the nature of the thrower.

Side note: I don’t know why minimums are so high in my state, but they all start at $25 and go
from there. If you can find a $15 minimum at a normal sized table where you can shoot SL1, it
goes up to $25 by 3pm. If it’s on the weekend, it opens at $25. Nothing to be done about it, but
I do long for some of those $5-$10 dollar tables I see folks talk about. Normal tables, not the
$10 400 yard par 5 table I just got done playing and shooting from the end.

Big Z,

Pre covid the casino next to the mall was $15 and $25 but I hear they have jumped to $25 and $50. I use to play there 3 to 4 times a week when I lived across the street from it.

@brywood I think Maryland has some of the nation’s highest minimums.  Of the 3 in my area, 2 start at $25 and then go to $50.  Then there is one that starts at $15 and goes to $25.  I am thankful for this weird hybrid table where you roll on a real table, yet bet electronically at only $10.  It’d be just perfect if you didn’t have to shoot from the end of a 14-16 foot table.
