Craps

Trip report – [name removed]

Spread the love

Met DJ at the [name removed] today for some fun playing craps. I arrived at about 8:45AM, the 7 tables in the [name removed] casino were cordoned off so housekeeping can do some house cleaning.

I walked over to the 2 other tables in the high limit area and both tables were open at $25 each. They raised one of the tables to $50 before I left.

DJ got a SL1 at one table and I found myself at extreme SL2, almost in the hook,  at the other table. I bought in for $1000 and divided my bankroll into 8 sessions of  $45 each for random shooters, and 4 sessions of $160 each for myself. After a few hours they closed the table and I left about even. I didn’t get into long grooves, I was rolling just long enough to win my initial bet back, but couldn’t keep throwing long enough to actually profit.

The rest of the day went downhill slowly, I was using the 4/2-4/2 HW set the whole day and kept getting the 4-3 or 5-2 double pitch repeatedly. Couldn’t get above my initial by in stake and just kept whittling it down lower and lower.

DJ and I had split up when they finally reopened  the tables in the [name removed] casino, however, by the time we broke for a bite to eat I was only left with a measly $233 from the original $1000 buy in.

We ate in the [name removed] VIP lounge and had a few laughs and interesting conversations.

By the time we made it back to the tables there was one 12”, $25 table open with no one on it. I asked one of the pit bosses if my friend and I could play at $15, and he said yes. DJ took SR1 and I took SL1. Not to drag this out more than I have to but suffice it to say that DJ almost threw a four point fire bet and saved my ass from having to re-buy in on at least two occasions. We were joined by some players some of which passed the dice to DJ and I. DJ got into some very nice grooves and thanks to his throws I started winning some of my money back. However, I kept being pestered by the dreaded double pitch 7 out.

At the end of the day DJ headed for the exits, and I remained at the table partially because I wanted to wait for traffic to subside for my drive home.

I stuck with the 4-2/ 4-2 hw set and was trying to figure out how I could grip it differently so as to get better results and avoid the 7s. I finally got into a groove and had a couple of nice throws. I felt like my grip was working better. I ended up winning back most of my $1000 buy in and cashed out with $968.

That’s not bad for a day that went steadily downhill.

Morale of the story is to have faith in your throw and when things aren’t going right to will yourself to make a slight change that will improve your results. That can be your grip, the release, the landing zone, or the arc, just to name a few.

BTW I go up to the [name removed] most every Tuesday, if you want to join me just reply to this post.

Great trip report and just a friendly reminder we don’t want [name removed] casino to come on here and read what we write, you might expose an advantage that they would then see and of course end, so that is why [name removed] appears instead of casino name. For more info please read the Rules for posting in the Craps Club. Thank you!!!

Great trip report.  The old handy / dandy double pitch can be a real problem.  Grip can always be a possible problem if fingers aren’t straight across the front of the dice so practice it at home.  Also the thumb placement may not have the same amount of skin on the dice at release.

The throw can also be a problem as small errors can creep into your throw.  I know that I catch myself not throwing the dice straight down the table and the dice go to the left so I need to make sure I am targeting correctly.

Do come to a GTC weekend–there is one in Vegas in late Sept / early October.  We can look at your grip and throw and get you up to the speed.

Remember this dice control that we teach is an ongoing journey and we all need a little advice from time to time.

@dr-crapology thanks Doc. I have the same issue in the throw and if I don’t pay attention my release will not be straight down the table. That was another adjustment I found I had to make last night.

I’m afraid LV won’t be possible this year, however, I’ll be first in line for a refresher in either AC or my favorite CT.

Great report, but what I didn’t like about it is when you were at the first table you shooting from the hook. I am sure you don’t practice from there, so why shoot from there? Be an advantage player at all times!
