As I take this journey I think about all phases of the game. Hopefully, anything I state here will help my fellow players for the better. The most important and prevalent part that stands out to me is the Grip. As we know, everything about the throw starts off with the grip.
To me finger balance is essential in controlling the dice. Without it of course you have no throw with the end result being random at best. So I’m going to go out on the limb here with the following statement. Let me know what you think?
” Finger Control Is Dice Control”
Although there are other aspects to the throw; if you don’t have the proper grip, the other steps of the throw will inevitably suffer. A possible result with an improperly gripped dice can develop poor muscle memory, which at times can be hard to correct especially for the new dice controllers. While trying to compensate and adjust the throw, this will not matter as long as your grip is off balance.
All of us that have taken this dice control journey with GTC have heard, if you throw is off:
“Check Your Grip”
This is so True !
So I found that if you put the hard work in, practice your ass off, it will payoff when you get to the casino. Work on all aspects of the throw. Break the throw down into smaller phases and you’ll see your throw will improve. While practicing take your time and analyze each phase; Believe me it will improve.
Practice The Grip !

High Arc, you are certainly on the right track. The whole GTC throw starts with the grip. Without a proper grip one is already on the way to a random roll to some degree. Mr. Finesse used to always say “you need to practice the grip, because without it you stand a chance of having a random roll.” Now this doesn’t mean you will always get a 7, because a random roller doesn’t always get a 7 and he/she doesn’t even grip the dice–they just grab the dice and sling them down the table.
As many know we lost Mr. Finesse several years ago. He was one of the original founders of GTC. He was a great friend and mentor to many instructors and members of GTC.
