So it’s been many years since I’ve taken a class and I know they’ve made many changes as I walked around on Sunday night and Monday and saw different people doing different things some thoughts crossed my mind on things that are done differently now than then. First do they still teach you as a beginner that the hard way set is the best set to use because I saw multiple people using multiple different sets? Second do they still teach you about buying in when the puck is off, and betting when the dice are up top? Tipping is the best thing to do?

1) We teach and encourage the hard-way set.
2) You should always buy in when the puck is off. (Classic Craps Etiquette)
3) Tipping is very important, 98% reduces the heat from stick and dealers.
And I will add 4) Come betting !!

1. I’ve always tipped; in fact I thought I was a pretty decent tipper until Dom showed us how to properly tip.
2. I played for 2 hours after the class ended on Sunday, and I consistently tipped by making pass line and come bets (particularly when I was shooting) for the dealers. It helped that I ended up winning over $20 for the dealers.
3. The dealers immediately warmed up to me. Even the pit boss softened her tone!…which I found very surprising.
4. I needed to run to the bathroom and asked if the dealers would watch my chips for me. In the past, I’ve been told to take the chips off the rack, and if I lose my spot at the table, then too bad for me. The dealers offered to watch my chips without any hesitation.
5. The table went from a $10 min bet to a $15 min bet about one hour into my stay the table. Dealers automatically told me that I was grandfathered in at a $10 min bet.
Yes…I found that generous and strategic tipping is a great way of gaining an "in" with the dealers, stickman (or stickwoman), and even the pit boss at the table.

I wonder who was using a different set. If I use the hardway set 97% of the time, everyone should

Just think how you have changed your play since taking the classes . Not every one will do that .OLD habits are hard to loose or forget .
Hope all is well with you and family .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂

I think you know how it is at the tables better than anyone. It’s kind of a free for all. For many of our students, what they are taught is not a very exciting way to play the game. It is very routine. Pass line bets, full odds if your bankroll can afford it. Follow all the rules that you mentioned. Use the hardway set to avoid the seven. All the different sets and prop bets are avoided. We teach the math. Nobody states it more clearly than Dom. Betting and table behavior are primary.
Here in the Bay Area no one thinks twice about running a red light. You run someone over and just keep on driving. Does it seem related in any way to the guy buying in when he feels like it? Or, the guy throwing bets in the center as you go into your backswing? Or the FU attitude you see all around you? Very seldom do the dealers take charge of the game. When I find myself reminding the players to bet while the dice are in the middle of the table, I know it’s time to find another table. Just my two cents. Great seeing you again in Vegas. Doughboy
