Craps

Class question.

So it’s been many years since I’ve taken a class and I know they’ve made many changes as I walked around on Sunday night and Monday and saw different people doing different things some thoughts crossed my mind on things that are done differently now than then. First do they still teach you as a beginner that the hard way set is the best set to use because I saw multiple people using multiple different sets? Second do they still teach you about buying in when the puck is off, and betting when the dice are up top? Tipping is the best thing to do?

Everything you mentioned is what I learned in class over the past 2 years, and much more.

Hi brothelman,

1) We teach and encourage the hard-way set.
2) You should always buy in when the puck is off. (Classic Craps Etiquette)
3) Tipping is very important, 98% reduces the heat from stick and dealers.

And I will add 4) Come betting !!

Piggybacking on MrPiP’s comment on tipping…

1. I’ve always tipped; in fact I thought I was a pretty decent tipper until Dom showed us how to properly tip.
2. I played for 2 hours after the class ended on Sunday, and I consistently tipped by making pass line and come bets (particularly when I was shooting) for the dealers. It helped that I ended up winning over $20 for the dealers.
3. The dealers immediately warmed up to me. Even the pit boss softened her tone!…which I found very surprising.
4. I needed to run to the bathroom and asked if the dealers would watch my chips for me. In the past, I’ve been told to take the chips off the rack, and if I lose my spot at the table, then too bad for me. The dealers offered to watch my chips without any hesitation.
5. The table went from a $10 min bet to a $15 min bet about one hour into my stay the table. Dealers automatically told me that I was grandfathered in at a $10 min bet.

Yes…I found that generous and strategic tipping is a great way of gaining an "in" with the dealers, stickman (or stickwoman), and even the pit boss at the table.

The biggest change BMan, is that we stress betting more than ever. We even had two refresher students in this class that in the opening introductions said that there throw wasn’t where it needed to be, but because of the betting that we teach they have made money. The emphasis is on come betting.

I wonder who was using a different set. If I use the hardway set 97% of the time, everyone should

Honestly 80 to 85% of all people I see that Seth and Dice use the TV at 3VR they’ve changed it to whatever bone track her or whatever said. The problem with going to the bone tracker thing is they don’t charge 5000 rolls

Brothelman, you have seen me play. I us the hard way set exclusively. Also I only make passline and come bets. The exception to this is when I’m on a good roll and a comeout seven knocks down all my comebets. Then I may place the 6-8. I played with several students from this past class. I noticed hardly anyone used the 5 count on other players. This I also do every time. The way to win more is lose less. That cannot be stressed enough. On more than one occasion it has kept me in the game with my buyin till I had a great roll. Also saw a couple using the 3V set. But hardway set, pass/come betting and 5 count are all covered in the class…

B man when I took the class which was some time ago I remember a student came up to my instructor telling him how he has been winning on all those prop bets . I did not say a word but thought that he wasted a lot of money .It is like Dom says only 10% WILL GO do what is preached .
Just think how you have changed your play since taking the classes . Not every one will do that .OLD habits are hard to loose or forget .
Hope all is well with you and family .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂

Hey Brothelman;

I think you know how it is at the tables better than anyone. It’s kind of a free for all. For many of our students, what they are taught is not a very exciting way to play the game. It is very routine. Pass line bets, full odds if your bankroll can afford it. Follow all the rules that you mentioned. Use the hardway set to avoid the seven. All the different sets and prop bets are avoided. We teach the math. Nobody states it more clearly than Dom. Betting and table behavior are primary.

Here in the Bay Area no one thinks twice about running a red light. You run someone over and just keep on driving. Does it seem related in any way to the guy buying in when he feels like it? Or, the guy throwing bets in the center as you go into your backswing? Or the FU attitude you see all around you? Very seldom do the dealers take charge of the game. When I find myself reminding the players to bet while the dice are in the middle of the table, I know it’s time to find another table. Just my two cents. Great seeing you again in Vegas. Doughboy
