Intern's Eye Vegas class August 2019

Spread the love

What really amazes me about these classes is the diversity I see in our students. We have people from every walk of life. What a great class. With all that seeming diversity we have one thing in common: a love of this game of craps. It just reminds me what we are capable of when we put our mind to something and come together with a common goal: beating the casinos at this game.

The first day many struggled to find their way with the toss. Some came with a predetermined notion that they already knew what it should look like. Others came with no preconception and started with a blank slate. What I found so remarkable was the improvement on day two. We had a lot of great beginners with a definite concept of where to begin the journey. The Refreshers and Advanced were remarkable.

There is no guessing as to the vision at GTC and who is running the show and with the amount of one on one attention that was arranged by Dom, there was no one left behind. My job as an intern was to help fill in any blanks I or anyone else could spot (extra help for anyone that wanted it). I have a chance to slowly work my way into a teaching role and continue to listen to Dom and the other instructors to glean different ways of saying the same thing. As NoFieldFive says,"It’s just a grip and a toss".

That being said, I continue to note how important that grip is and what it looks like. In addition, as the dice leave your hand at the full extent of the swing, what kind of fulcrum is your hand sustaining at this point? For myself, I have continued to reflect on the importance of ending the movement well and following through to the very end of the toss. Any finger movement at this point will have a very definite effect on how the dice are rotating and whether or not they are able to land on axis. This is not as easy as it looks. I encourage you to use the NFF drill in front of the mirror with your dice to ensure that your dice are level to the surface of the table. It’s all about developing that good muscle memory.

I don’t want to go on too long with this post but, I do want to say how much I enjoyed everyone’s enthusiasm and persistence. As an instructor, I feed off of this and use it to continue to look for new ways to reach each on of you and engage in the learning process. I can only encourage those of you that are new to this forum to actively participate and help us to know how we can continue to make you a better advantage player. Share some of your experiences and difficulties with each other. Take the time to write and participate. We will all benefit from it.

Keep in mind that a Refresher should be a part of your future plans if you are serious about this journey. The tune up offered by Alligator Rose and Dr. Crapology is one of the best bargains we offer for shot analysis and feedback. I have already resumed my practice routine with new awareness and determination. I had two very positive trips this month and continue to grow confidence as my muscle memory gets corrected with the new information I gather from watching each one of you struggle. A good teacher also learns with his students. Thanks for giving me the opportunity. Now, start practicing!!

Dough ‘Boy is correct. The class was a great one. The students came to learn and learn they did. It was a large class–some 30 students including the Advanced Class. If anyone plans on coming to Atlantic City in October, we suggest that you contact Dom now as it will probably fill up quickly.

Rose and Doc always get as much out of the class at the students, because as we instruct we become even more aware of the small defects that can creep into your throw.

Hope to see many on the board in AC as it is the last class for 2019. If you can’t make it we look forward to another 5 great classes in 2020.
