Feature bets at Craps–are they worth it?

Spread the love

Most all casinos have at least one if not two feature bets such as The Fire Bet, Small Tall All, and Rebeater Bet–there are probably others.

Rose and Doc don’t generally make these bets–especially on random rollers. The advantage is just too high to make any player a winner in the long run on these bets—usually a percentage in excess of 20 to 25%.

So Doc decided to run an analysis of these types of bets using the Small Tall and All (STA for short) as his example. When playing with chips he kept track of the times he made all 3 bets for a total wager of $15.
He made the $15 bet at the beginning of every turn with the dice as well as when a point made was followed with a come out roll of 7. He made the $15 bet with every single come out roll. He did this for 2 months–June and July. The final results–he hit all three (STA) bets once, the Small 2 times and the tall 3 times. The final result a total loss of $2815 for this short period of time.

And A BIG YES—I did make money betting the GTC way and it was slightly slightly more than the STA losses. As many of you know he is not a big better but plays to his bank roll and his tolerance for possible losses. There has to be a lesson here.

This may not be a scientific experiment with a million trials but he does think that it is an indication of what may well happen to you in the long run.

I just remember a statement that I have heard many times—IF THE CASINO OFFERS A FEATURE OR BONUS WAGER WITH A LARGE PAY DAY, THE HOUSE VIG IS NOT PROBABLY BUT ALWAYS MUCH HIGHER THAN BASIC THE GAME, whether it be BJ, 3 card poker, Pai Gow Poker, etc. This is generally true for any table game.

So play to your bank, learn the skill, and only make the bets you can overcome.

Comments welcome.

Over the past 18 months or so, I’ve been lucky to throw/win
the full ATS seven times. Kept track in competition with my son.
Mostly in Biloxi. And I don’t live there. Last time was in April.
Guess I’ve been lucky.
And my measured SRR is about 6.4, +/- 0.5
I see lots o’sevens on my practice table.
Note my moniker. 7×7

My last trip trip I spent about 24 hrs at the tables with betting a total of 3.00 on these bets with out seeing ONE win if that helps you in a decision about this kind of bet . I made the bet just to give the pit critter some thing to do other then bothering me . 😀
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂
