If someone puts their chips in your landing zone and you cannot maneuver the dice around them, is it their fault for putting the chips there, or is it your fault because you made the shot knowing you were going to hit the chips? If the dealer is giving you a bad time is it his fault because he’s an ass or is it your fault for not taking your betts down and finding another table? If players by end in the middle of your roll drop their money on the table while you were attempting to make a shot is it their fault for doing that , Or is it your fault because you made the shot? When you think about all of this basically the person with the dice is truly in control of the game. They can choose when they want to play, when they do not want to play, when they want to make the shot, and when they do not want to make the shot. So honestly who’s to blame for a poor quality shot?

Good point on your choices to play. The way I see it, the casinos have 3 advantages over the player:
(1) House advantage on ALL bets except the free odds – the game is biased in the casino’s favor.
(2) Unlimited money – they can outlast you. However, you can reduce the effects of this house advantage with a sizable 401G.
(3) Risk management – like max/min bet ratio, banning, reduced comps, petty harassment, etc.

The player has 2 advantages over the casino:
(1) The player can choose when and where to play – this is the concept of the original post.
(2) The player chooses the amount of the bet (within the limits), when to make the bet (5 count), and what bets to make (avoid high house advantage bets like prop bets: anything in the middle of the table. Stick with pass, come, don’t pass, don’t come. In other words, stick with bets that a basic-to-intermediate advantage player can have a measurable, positive advantage over the house.

Both of you brothelman and bminus bring up very good points. I was thinking about the very
same subject driving home from a casino revisit yesterday.

Dr Crapology got me thinking with his discovery of poor playing tables on his recent trip. He had the discipline to walk away. If there are no other players at the table that is a clear sign there is a problem.

Many of the slow casinos will only have only half of the table open because of using one less dealer. You may not be able to claim the stick position desired. I was told by one particular casino dealer the reason for a long fourteen or sixteen foot table is to avoid an additional $100,000 per table fee paid to the state.

Dealers who are watching the big screen instead of the craps table is a reason to leave.

Dealers talking up a storm and messing around instead of being attentive to the players.

There is one particular joint that has dealers acting out-right retarded with their antics. And they are never making tips.

On occasion you may have dealers create distractions when shooting. I actually had a change of the box who did that right off; not knowing I had been placing tips on my bets. I grabbed my chips and walked.

Poor lighting is no fun unless you are in a saloon. There is nothing like being in a casino that has good lighting and a quality sound system.

I have witnessed very good Box Men and Women act in keeping discipline at the table. I immediately throw out a tip for them.

There is an old casino on Fremont Street in Las Vegas that is known for being a place to get your start as a dealer. It always amazes me when I approach the craps table at 4AM to see the dealers are all standing at attention waiting. They are not horsing around running their mouth. They are attentive and professional. It is always an enjoyable experience.

Never judge an empty table because it’s empty empty tables can often be dreams. Learn about table conditions from the experts. Learn how to play from the experts. Meaning the instructors. And always remember 95+ percent of all people that come through this journey Are here to either get rich quick order just have fun.

You said this before I could get to it …… 🙂

Many reasons for an empty table and most of those reasons are not because the table isn’t good

The problem is not the empty table of the problem is people’s ability to read a table and man I hear all kinds of things about different tables and I go on I look at them and I and I just wonder what what’s being said but then I remember everybody has a different taste and some people didn’t drink the Kool-Aid!

Some just don’t like to play alone . I wait till the puck is in OFF pos. but not till the roller ends his roll .Even when I am the second person to arrive .
I have seen lots of dealers say just put down your money in middle of roll and not even think that it may not be to your liking . Had to say that it was not right many times .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂
