Hi all
Today we say goodby to Charlie, "Sandtrap" Romano. Charlie passed away quietly in his sleep this morning.
For those of you that don’t know, Charlie and his wife Marylin, "The Goddess" were Golden Touch’s very first students back 21 years ago. Charlie was a guy that always had a joke and loved his glass of vodka at dinner. He was a close friend of all of us in Golden Touch and we will miss him greatly.
I want to include a poem that Charlie wrote to me in this post – not because it has me mentioned but for those of you that didn’t know Charlie it will give you a glimpse into the kind of man he was – gentle, warm hearted and always quick with a joke.
Charlie, my friend, I will miss you very much. Say hello to Bob, Mr Finesse and Bill Ace 10 Burton, and tell them I will see them sometime, but not in the near future. 🙂
Dom
THANK YOU POEM TO DOM
My birthday is always a special day for me,
And you made it better than usual, times three.
Your kindness in buying a delicious birthday cake,
Was an extension of your loving handshake.
You told me you loved me, which made me want to cry;
Not in a sad way, but rather made me want to fly.
Not too many men say that to another man,
And I say the same back to you, like we are in a clan.
Your thoughtfulness to me over these many years
Is better than looking at women without brassieres.
I asked Marilyn not to mention my March 17,
And no one thought to wear green.
She told me later she already had,
And hoped I would enjoy it, and not get mad.
Thanks again for all you’ve done,
My best to you, you son-of-a-gun!

Dom remembered one of his infamous poems. What came to my mind was his unassuming, gentle nature. Sandtrap told me many times that he was a horrible golfer. He felt he was not good enough to go out on a course so he would primarily only go to the driving range. One day I was finally able to talk him into going out to play golf together. What a shock it was to see him getting pars and birdies on a regular basis. The man had game.
But you would never know it from talking to him. His modest and humble manner kept him from boasting. You will be missed Sandtrap.

So sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. I know it’s been a difficult few years. I’d hoped we could all shoot together again, I’d had such a good time with you and him at the tables and at lunch talking. He was indeed such a gentle soul.
Charlie, you will be missed.
Don

What a total life-changing loss to Marilyn and his family.
Charlie would post beautiful love-poems to his bride.
They were alot like the one he wrote to you, Dom.
Unmistakeable passion for The Goddess with a little humor thrown in.
You rarely saw The Goddess without her Sandtrap.
Life will be vastly different for the Taylor-Romano family.
It will be different for the GTC family too.
We all salute our dear friend as he joins that huge craps game in heaven.
Roll On, Sandtrap, Roll On !!!

The thoughts and prayers of Rose and Doc are with you during this trying time. All of GTC will miss our dear friend who gave us so much joy and happiness when we would meet you two in the various casinos over the years.
It seems only yesterday, that shortly after we took the course in Tunica, we walked up to see you, Charlie, Skinny and the Raging Baritone playing at a craps table. We had not met you yet and were very new to the GTC principles of playing the game we all love so much. We were so excited to see someone rolling as we had been taught. I bought in too soon and made some other errors. Being green as a gourd with very little knowledge of how to act at the table, Charlie called me to a spot away from the table and counseled me in a firm manner and from that we became friends.
Your GTC family will certainly miss Charlie.
Rose and Doc
