Sandtrap has been in and out of hospital and rehab since Dec., and he has not been home since the beginning of Dec. He is now deteriorating: He can’t eat or drink without getting aspiration pneumonia, so he has a “peg” feeding tube in the abdomen; his liver and kidneys are beginning to fail; he has a lot of fluid in his abdomen, causing some difficulty breathing.

As a result, we had a long discussion with the hospital hospice liaison. Charlie, and I, decided that since these are vital organs for which there is no treatment for him, he would go on hospice and sign the DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) order. This means he will be kept comfortable, and we will both get the support we badly need. This was excruciatingly difficult for both of us, naturally.

Of course, we don’t know how long he has. It could be many months, or not. I’m not sure how I am going to get through this, a second time.

Although all your prayers have pulled him through in the past, for which we are very greatful, now he needs prayers to see him through in comfort.
