Hello GTC, I had recently noticed a player putting a large amount of money splitting, (right on top of) the bottom line of the pass line area. Not sure how this gets paid. I believe it was $300. Any input would be greatly appreciated since I have never seen a player do this.

I think that at most casinos IF the point has been est. then you are able to bet it this way .Some casinos will let you just bet the pass line if you are a regular and you just missed it . Some may know what the rule is if there is one on this tho .

This, as others have stated is a place bet on the point.
There are some things that must be understood about this bet.
1. This is a self service bet. The player makes it on their own and the only time a dealer will touch it is when it wins or loses. The player can not call it off as they can with place bets in the boxes. If you want the bet to come down you must remove it yourself.
2. If you want to place the point I recommend that you have the dealer make it in the box for you which means that it is a dealer serviced bet. If they don’t want to do that for you it means that they are lazy so don’t tip them.
3. You can also BUY the point on the line and players do this regularly when the point is 4 or 10. In some casinos the dealers will put a buy button on it especially if it is a casino that takes the commission up front.
4. There are places that will allow put bets(making a line or come bet after or before the number rolls). Remember that making this bet has a much higher cost and players shouldn’t do it unless you are allowed to take more than 5 times odds. Usually the casinos that don’t allow put bets are the ones that offer higher odds multiples, so if it’s allowed you will usually not want to do it. 🙂
