Craps

Trip Report

Spread the love

Spent a nice weekend in Vegas with my son taking in a hockey game and the NASCAR race. Didn’t do very well at the tables. Lost about $3k. I was consistently throwing the 5 2. Planning to make some modifications to my throwing station to mimic the chip rail. I am committed to continuing to practice and will be back again in June.

Been there, feel your pain. Keep in mind that a lot of craps is a mind game. That’s why if I have 3 short rolls, I take a break and go play slots, or take a nap, or, best, go back to my room, take a nap, stretch, and practice my throw. Then, with a fresh mind and confidence, I go back to the tables. Dogged determination worked well for me in the military. But not so much in craps. Casinos graciously (ha) give us the option of stepping away from the fight and to come back anytime with new vigor.

When I walk into a casino, I will quickly go to 3 working bets. But, if I have short rolls, I’ll begin making my bets conservatively, having no more than 2 working bets going, until I get 3 collections. And I start with odds of 3x. That way, the most I lose on a short roll at a $10 table is $80 (On a $5 dollar table, I still put odds of $30). It’s the conservative Skinny. In most cases, I only have 1 bet that’s not covered. Admittedly, being conservative takes a LOT of discipline and patience.

When I was at a table with more experienced friends and GTC instructors, in my earlier days, I used to wonder why they would often leave the table after only 2 or 3 turns. Now I know. It is best to take breaks to keep your mind game sharp. It all starts in the mind.

Whatever game plan you use, decide on it before you walk in, and stick to it. That will keep losses low and give you time to come roaring back to victory.

Yep, the three turns with the dice rule is the way to go!
