Table Size?

Spread the love

My husband and I are trying to determine the size of room we might need for a 12 foot Craps table and also a 10 foot Craps table. We have read various info about table sizes. I always assumed 12 foot was the inside dimension from diamonds to diamonds but have now read that the inside dimension is really 11 feet 2 inches. Misinformation or correct?

Really, what we need to know is outside dimensions both width and length so we can determine room size needed. We will not have an over abundance of room size to work with.

Dom, can you tell me the outside dimensions of your 12 and 10 foot tables please? Anyone else? If you want to take the time to measure your tables for me so I can get a consensus, that would be very helpful. We are just in the planning stages right now. Thanks everyone!

Hi Getagrip If you go back on my old post about when I built my table there may still be the plans for one and pics of what I built to give you an idea . It is sitting on a 15 ft. patio outside .I am out of country right now so can not measure it . But I did use 3 sheets of oak plywood to build it . Then you add for wood on top for chips . It will depend on the thickness of wood used to hold up rail .

We have posted something on this subject in the past. We know that for many, space may be a problem in putting in a full size 12 foot table.

We have an excellent spot but it was a little small.

We had a table made that is a little under 12 feet–11 feet to be exact. We simply stand a little to the left of the middle of the table where we would normally stand at a full 12 foot table. Example: 72 inches is the normal middle of a 12 foot table. Allowing an additional 18 inches for the stick man, we mark a spot at 90 inches from the back wall which will easily give you the distance you need for a 12 foot table.

Should be want to practice for a 14 foot table (there are a lot of these out there in casino land) we mark an additional 12 inches for a total of 102 inches to the back wall. With our table with a total of 11 feet(132 inches), We still have plenty of room for a short back swing to practice for a 14 foot table.

Of course a GTC half table in conjunction with a GTC throwing station, is a great way to practice as well. Talk to Dom and we should be able to get you going.

If the rough dimensions of your table are 12 X 5 I would center it in a room that measures 20 X 12. That gives you 4 feet all around for movement and congregating. for a 10 foot table I would still use the same, add 8 feet the the length and width and center in the room or area.

12 foot table is 13.5 feet long.

Hard Nine, You are correct—a 12 foot table will be a little longer than 12 feet. The measurements that we talked about in the post earlier in this thread is for the inside length of the table if you have to have one a little shorter because of room restrictions.

The actual overall size will vary depending on the size of the railing,

Remember that you want to have at least the table length plus 4 feet so you have room to move around, and then there is the getting it in the rooma multi piece table is best to locate inside.

Our table is about 14X6

We can make a 10 foot table as well – but I wouldn’t recommend it – I would rather see you go to a half table with throwing station is size is a problem

Give me a call and I can be more exact

If you get to Phoenix next year you are welcome to come by for measurement and practice . It is out side so it would be better when SUN is out . 😀 😀

Thanks for the great info everyone and thanks Finisher for the invite. Most generous! I will keep all of this info in mind as we search for a house to buy.

One other question for those that have a table in a garage or outside. Have you noticed any problems with your table or surface due to changes in humidity or temperature? A garage might be an option for us as far as space but I am not sure if it is a reasonable option. Thanks again for any info!

Forget the way the table reacts to the temperature what about you I have to some times wear a sweatshirt to throw other times it is a sweat box so consider that Not exactly ideal practice times!

You will have changes and warping if in the area you live in has a winter and summer

Hi Getagrip you just sparked my brain a little . Maybe you should look to build some thing like a Murphy bed . That will give you more space . Just a thought .Does any one out ther have this type of set up ?
Will you be in Vegas in Jan ?

That’s food for thought Finisher!

Catch you later!

Thanks Finisher!

That could be an interesting project and fun! I think It would also present some problems depending on house space. Probably wouldn’t fit IN a wall because of depth but could fit ON a wall folded up. Would still need the length of the room to be long as I don’t think the ceiling height would be tall enough to allow for fold down from end to end (unless it was also hinged in the middle somehow so it was a shorter length). Guess if it folded out the long way there would be one side that would be on the wall and not useable but that is not terrible as you would still have three sides to use. Would need some hellacious hinges! Fun to picture! If anyone tries it, let us know!! And attach pictures! 😀 😀
