Every generation of my family has served, since Private Byers served in the Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War, always in war. It’s the price of our liberty. I would not say it was joyful, but I don’t regret a minute of my service, nor do my 5 sons.
Not everyone serves in the military, nor needs to. To date, the youth of our country have never failed to step up to the challenge.
Most recently, when my oldest son was 19, I was concerned that he and his friends were wasting their lives partying all night, falling asleep at work, etc. But when the 2nd plane hit the twin towers on 9-11, my oldest son and his friends, who were at my house watching the foreign terrorist attack unfold, of their own volition said they wanted to sign up to destroy those SOB’s. He did, and he was followed by his brothers over the next 10 years, and LTAmerica still serves.
The things they saw and did for our country did not shake their faith. No, it made them appreciate what we have here. Some of my sons were injured, but they all came home and are doing very well. But not every family has been so blessed.
I am grateful for President Trump and his staff’s efforts to improve the VA, and their support to all veterans, young and old. And grateful to all of my fellow countrymen. You all make me proud to be an American.
God Bless America.
