Craps

Not all tables are created equal…damn

Spread the love

I don’t know why I never noticed this until last night, but I am glad I did and now I need input on what to do.
I have a GTC practice rig and like anyone that is going to spend that much money on one I practice on it all the time.
One thing that always bugged me is that I rotate dice on this thing differently than when I walk in to a casino and play. Last night I final figured out why. Its kind of embarrassing that it never dawned on me before to be honest.
The damn bottom of the table where the felt is at and the top of the rail is different on a lot of these tables.

I don’t normally play at downtown casinos out here because its kind of shady downtown, but I decided to go there last night since this one place I like made their tables like a trampoline.
Anyway there are 3 casino’s all connected in this building. I liked the table at one because of how the dice hit and its just like my practice rig, but for some reason I cant rotate the dice much at all. I have noticed this same thing at other places as well. I always thought its my damn nerves in the past. Then last night at one of the other casinso’s I grabbed the dice, threw them and I see the spin! I thought I just got into a zone at first. then I realized the rail to the felt is not the same.

Now I am wondering why cant I throw the same. is it just a visual thing that is messing with me?
I could use some advice on this please. I began walking back and forth from one casino to the other trying to throw on both tables last night because I wanted to test myself. All I could figure out was that I can win on this table that is more like the practice rig and I cant do as much on this other table. I could spin on one, but not so much on the other.
I even got a hundred dollar tip last night on the good table. I’ve never been tipped that much before. I was pretty happy.

Just some thoughts for you regarding different table heights and not as many revs as you would like:

Sometimes when you get to a table that is too high (this makes the difference between the felt and the rail not deep enough) you’re not able to straighten your throwing arm before taking your backswing and your throwing arm is bent thus throwing off your normal swing. This is when you need to come up on your toes to make sure your arm is straight down before taking the backswing.

Other things to check (these things are on any height table):
1) Are you holding the dice loosely?
2) Are you using the breathing technique before you throw the dice?
3) Do you have a good grip with the thumb lower than the front fingers? (lowering the thumb causes more revs but you’ve also got to be holding the dice loosely for any of this to work)

If none of this helps, you can always come back to a refresher, elite video, tune up or advanced class. Fortunately a lot of us eat and breathe craps and would love to help you! 😀

Well I would say everything I do should be the same. When I went to the other table I wasn’t expect the rotations I saw. It just happened. the only thing I could see different was the distance from the top rail to the felt. I just don’t know if there is some mental thing that effects me subconsciously when I see this. Like maybe I do something different cause I’m worried about throwing them off the table due to the different visual. Without someone that has been to class or an instructor there with me that sees it, it makes it hard to figure out.

I agree with Doc. I know that you’re seeing a perceived difference in distance from rail to felt but it’s really the details behind that are critical. Doc already noted but again, look at height of floor to deck, floor to rail, and resulting rail to felt. There are HUGE differences of up to 2 inches (or more) in each. I was at one table that looked normal but the deck was so much higher than I’ve ever seen. Even though the rail wasn’t that much higher, even on my toes, which is how I always shoot, I could not have my arm straight and kept scraping the felt.

We need to be able to SEE those differences and learn to adjust to them, or third, learn when to walk away. I struggled with this often but really learned so much more during my advanced class last year.

It’s a journey, and there are always little things to learn.

Best of luck

I stopped playing at one casino just for this reason . I could no longer reach my come bets .
Also if the casino has 16 foot tables I pass on them .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀
