We traditionally go to AC to celebrate my birthday. This year was a very special one, as I am celebrating reaching 75 years, 37 years cancer survivor the first time, 20 years cancer survivor a second time, and this month, 2 years in remission from leukemia.
This year, we were joined by Donna and Bob Rosano and Sandra. Others either had to work or had health issues, and couldn’t join us. However, we had a wonderful time, and we also celebrated Donna’s birthday, which is on the 18th. In fact, their host comp’d all of us a dinner on Tuesday at Gallagher’s to honor her birthday.
As far as shooting the dice, there were many ups and downs, as usual. We arrived Monday at noon. Sandtrap rolled an 8 and a nice 13, and I had two good rolls: 14, and 37. After lunch, I rolled a 19, 7, and 8, and made money on all of them. In the evening, I rolled a 20 and a 7; Sandra rolled a 10 and 9. Sandtrap and Bob struggled, and we were getting tired. I went to Pai Gow, while others went to rest before our party. I received 4 of a kind twice, which paid $125 each time, and then I also was on a winning streak with the deals. I had agreed to meet Sandtrap at the pizza place at 5:00, but didn’t want to leave Pai Gow, and he had to call me to find out where I was. I finally had a loss, and went to help order the pizza.
We had a nice two room suite, and brought up pizza, salad, a cake from home, beer, and soda to celebrate our birthdays. We were then joined by Erika and Rusty Schultz, Mo Rick’s son and wife. It was a wonderful dinner, reminiscing, and a lot of laughter.
Tuesday we were up early, and Sandtrap had rolls of 7, 14, and 3. I rolled a 6, 10, 9, and 18, all 6’s and 8’s on all the rolls. Then to breakfast. Results were not going too well, so I went to Pai Gow. After our dinner at Gallagher’s, I was too tired to shoot. However, Bob woke up and had rolls of 5, 30, 11, 12, 17, and 28! Sandtrap also did better, with rolls of 23, 10, 18, and 8. Donna took longer to wake up and had rolls of 4, 2, 8, 5, and then around 11pm rolled a 30 and a 19! Sandtrap and I then went to bed, but Bob and Donna stayed up until 3am!
Wednesday we all slept in, we and didn’t get down to the table until 9:30, unheard of for us. However, the table was empty so Sandtrap and I got on right away, while Bob and Donna didn’t get town until later. Sandtrap struggled again (I think he was still tired), and had rolls of 7, 2, 3, a nice 19, 4, and 8. I did fairly well and shot a 12, 26, 2, 8,and 15. Bob rolled three times for a 4, 8, and a 22. Donna rolled twice with a 4 and an incredible 43!. With that, we decided to go to lunch at 12:30, and went to a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant recommended to us by dealers. We all enjoyed our food tremendously at Pho on Atlantic Avenue, next to Maria’s, where we frequently eat breakfast.
After lunch, only Bob managed to have two good rolls after 1 1/2 hours of 23 and 29, making us some money. We were on a table with a higher rail, so I didn’t roll. After a quick dinner, Bob tossed a beautiful 26, but that was all. Sandtrap had one 13 roll. Donna was again the winner, with rolls of 4, 12, 7, and then an exquisite 43 roll at 10:30! At this game, we were next to a very funny player, who gave us some jokes, and had us laughing for 4 hours. At one point. a player started an argument about how much money he had given the dealer, and claimed to be short $100. He held up the game for at least 10 minutes. At which our neighbor asked us, "What’s the difference between a proctologist and a dealer?….A proctologist only has to look up one asshole at a time." I noticed he was only placing PL bets without odds, and finally asked him why. The response was he was superstitious. That’s why he only changes his underwear every 4 days. Donna chimed in with, "So do I." Sandtrap then said, " I smelled it, but didn’t know from whom," and we all cracked up. The entire evening went this way, until Donna’s last roll, when we agreed we were all tired, and went to bed. They had to leave early the next day so Donna could go to work. We slept in, and then just went home without playing so as to keep our profits.
The one sad thing about this trip was that our dear friend, Mr. FInesse was not with us. It was our tradition for many years to meet in AC for my birthday. I am sure Bob is teaching everyone to practice their grip every day, as well as the toss, and that he is happy to be with his beloved Miriam.
