Lay bets

Spread the love

This last trip to casino saw more players laying bets then ever before . Is this a new trend ? They were laying the 4 and 10 unless one was the point then lay just the other .
They also would press if they won .
Did not realise that on one of my rolls one guy had pressed to 1,000 .00 .Starting at 100.00 . I did not realise why he was so upset with me when he left . I did roll a 10 a few times in a row tho .
The dealers talked about a few other players that lay those numbers also .
Is there not a high veg for the casino with this bet ?
Good Rolling. 😀 😀

Rose and Doc saw some of this while in the little gambling oasis in northwest Louisiana. Guess someone has put out a web site or a blog telling how wonderful this is. Yes the lay bet (which as most everyone knows) has a vig similar to the place/buy bet on the 4 and 10 just like laying any other box number, although we don’t really know what the exact vig is. If the casino didn’t have a house advantage they wouldn’t allow the bet. We did turn several of these "don’t" players in changing to the "do" side of the game as we did hit their numbers and they lost.

As best we can remember if you play the don’t pass/come, I believe the vig is 1.37% verses 1.4% on the pass/come bet so about the same. So it makes since there is a similar house advantage (HA) on the lay bets.

Hope that helps a little. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge of the don’t / lay side of the game will chime in with some comments.

If you want to bet against a number coming up, you can lay the odds and hope a seven rolls and you win before the number rolls and you lose. You will pay a 5 percent commission every time you win on the amount you win (or in the worst case scenario, every time you place the bet).

When you lay the 4 or 10, you bet $40 to win $20 and pay $1 in commission (lay $41). The 4 or 10 has true odds of 2-1. You lay $2 to win $1.

To bet against a 5 or 9, you lay $30 to win $20 and pay $1 in commission (lay $31). The 5 or 9 has true odds of 3-2. You lay $3 to win $2.

To bet against a 6 or 8, you lay $24 to win $20 and pay $1 in commission (lay $25). The 6 or 8 has true odds of 6-5. You lay $6 to win $5.

The house edge on the lay bet depends on whether you pay the commission always or on a win only.

Following is the house edge when the commission is paid always:

Lay 6 or 8: 4.00%
Lay 5 or 9: 3.23%
Lay 4 or 10: 2.44%

Following is the house edge when the commission is paid on the win only:

Lay 6 or 8: 2.27%
Lay 5 or 9: 2.00%
Lay 4 or 10: 1.67%

There may be other places around the country however the only places that I have seen that allow lay bets where the vig is paid after the win have been in Vegas.
If the game allows buy bets where the vig is paid after then they should allow lay bets paying the vig after also. I have in the past made lay bets where I had to remind the box that the vig should be paid after since that is how they handled the buy bets and was successful almost all of the time but have on occasion been denied that option.

BTK the only lay bet that I have ever seen and know of that pays on the win is the 4 and 10 most houses collect the vig on these two after they hit

Me too. As I stated though even at some of the places that allow buy bets on the 4/10 and paying the commission after the win I have had to get the pit to verify that it was also available on a lay bet. In my mind this should be obvious but some have needed convincing.
I haven’t made a lay bet in years. I used to sometimes but have gone away from it.
Does anyone else do it and in what way would you use it? I would sometimes do it on come out rolls when I felt like I could toss more sevens than normal and I would use them often in tournaments.

Hello everyone – it’s been a while since I’ve been here.

In Vegas last week, a player laid the 4,5,9, and 10 on the come-out roll, and then rolled five straight come out sevens, getting a payout on each one.

This is the only time I have seen this done, or heard of this being done. Has anyone here tried this betting tactic? Laying the box numbers during the come out cycle looks like easy money – maybe its too easy.

Thanks
