During the GTC classes in October, I did my 4th Video Analysis with Dominator, No Field Five and Nick At Night. As usual, it was fantastic. For those who do not know how the Video works, here is what I did: I started warming up on a table at about 8:10am for 20 minutes. Then I want to the other table where they have the lights and video equipment setup. First, I shot 4 pairs of dice with the cameras rolling. One camera is capturing the shot from the left, the other from the right. After the first 4 shots, I got the dice back again and did the same thing again – shooting 4 pairs of dice. This process took about 20 minutes or so. Once the 8 shots were completed, No Field Five reviewed the video with me, and gave Dominator some topics to use as he coached me. Dominator and I went to the other table and he worked on the items he and NFF discussed. He worked with my shot and I took a lot of notes. After about 20 minutes I went back to the other table were NFF and NAN repeated the process. After that I had another coaching session with Dominator. Then I did the final video shoot. After all was over, NFF gave me the 3 video sessions for my review at home. We worked on four small items that were keeping me from having a great shot. I was given exercises and drills to do at home.
My wife and I were staying in AC for the weekend, along with some other GTC graduates. After the Video Analysis was over, I went back to the casino and played. Friday was tough because I was fresh out of coaching. I tried to implement the items we worked on but, it was not "natural" yet. I had no muscle memory for the items we discussed and, for me, thinking about the mechanics of my shot while at the table does not work very well for me. Saturday saw my shot starting to improve. Then came Sunday. We played two sessions on Sunday morning. The first saw us move to a couple of different tables, and then once we got to one we liked, I shot a couple of times. Things were looking better but nothing really spectacular. Then, just before we were going to have brunch I shot a 49! I made the TALL and a total of 6 points, but only 4 to the Fire. After brunch, we were able to get our spots at the same table, and I shot a 52, making 7 points, again shooting the TALL and 4 to the Fire. Due to these 2 sessions, I won back my losses from Friday and Saturday, plus the cost of the Video Analysis.
Since getting home and getting into my normal practice routine, I have been able to watch the videos a couple of times and together with reviewing my notes, I have been able to start the process of locking the new shot into my muscle memory.
I can’t say enough about the Video Analysis. Anyone who knows me will agree I am not an athlete. Dominator says throwing Dice is an athletic endeavor and I agree. Because I am not an athlete, doing physical things over and over the same way hundreds or thousands of times takes me much longer to learn than others. Everyone at GTC has been wonderful by sharing their teaching and coaching with me and making me feel that I really can learn and execute the GTC shot. To me, the videos are great but getting coaching from two of the best shooters around is always fantastic.
Thanks to Dominator, No Field Five and Nick At Night for a fantastic session.
