Great trip to Vegas and the class

Spread the love

Let’s start out by simply saying that we had a great class weekend. As usual the primers worked hard and were able to learn everything we had to teach. With practice at home and a couple of refresher classes they will become a part of Dominator’s 10%–the casino’s worst nightmare. The refreshers had pretty good technique to start with and with a few tweaks here and there, their improvement was dramatic–again well on their way to Dom’s 10%. Rose and Doc would be willing to play with any of them any time. If you haven’t signed up yet there are a few spots left in Atlantic City so call Dominator and reserve your place in what will be another great class. A great way to finish off the year right.

Now to the fun part. We will only hit the highlights as we would not play much until Monday. We don’t keep a lot of records of the ups and downs as the days pass, so will only give the highlights.

Rose and Doc arrived early afternoon on Wed prior to the class weekend. We went to a hotel where we were not staying and had a quick bite of lunch with Mr. Finesse. Great to see him again. Walked around our hotel for a short time and went to the room to rest for a few minutes. When we left and got off on the first floor, standing there was No Field Five and his lovely new bride. If you haven’t met Mrs. NFF, you are missing a beautiful young lady (beautiful inside and out).

We decided that the four of us would head to a nearby casino to see if our spots were open. They were. Rose got the dice first with a short roll, NFF had a short roll and I followed suit. Doc did not want to show them up!!! The dice were looking good for all of us but just some crazy bounces and the 7 came too soon. We made a few paydays but nothing to brag about. The dice came around again and Rose had a nice short hand with several repeaters and the old devil appeared, but we made a little money. NFF got the dice and his dice were spot on. He began slowly to set up some numbers and then it was easy to see this just might be some sort of big roll. During his roll we thought he just might wear out the 8’s and 6’s. He hit all the numbers many times. As will happen, sooner or later the old devil finally appeared, BUT a monster roll of 55. SHOW OFF!!! It was a thing of beauty. The only seven was the final roll. Probably only a couple of trash numbers in the entire roll. We were all up big time—what a great beginning to a trip. It seems Rose and Doc sometimes get in a hole in the beginning of a trip and have to dig their way out. Doc got the dice and had a beautiful point 7 out–a 2/5. We colored up and headed to the hotel with a spring in our step and some extra Franklin’s in our pocket.

Thursday morning would have some typical short rolls with a few repeaters by each player and we went down a couple of portraits of Benjamin. Now it was time to head to setup which would take most of the rest of the day. Had a great dinner that night. Were tired and went to bed early.

Friday morning was a little better with some rolls in the low 20’s and some teens with a few repeaters and again we lost a little back. Just too many short rolls. On one of Rose’s high teen rolls Doc had 3 numbers up but did not hit a pay day until about the 12th roll while NFF and Rose were raking it in. Don’t you just hate it when your wife is making more money than you????? Now it was time to head to the open house. That would be pretty much it until Monday except for some blackjack (using Speed Count), Pow Gai Poker, Video Poker, and some other table games for low stakes and short periods of time.

On Monday things went pretty good with a few rolls in the 20’s by us and other GTC players. But always the short rolls that will cost you a little. We were up and down but holding our own. On the chicken feeders (CF) we always five count and when one does not make the five count, Doc puts a $1 chip in my pocket. My standard bet on a CF is a $10 bet with $10 odds for a total exposure of $20. However one chicken feeder did hit my one bet 3 times and I made $80 on him. BTW, by the end of the trip on Tues night I had counted a total of 32 chips in my pocket times $20 means I protected our bank roll to the tune of $640. The five count does work. Rose uses the five count as well with success.

It was during this period of time that Rose decided to play a little new card game called High Card Flush. She has played this game before and if she loses $100 she quits. This time I got a 5 card flush with a 3 card straight flush and then a 4 card straight flush and then good cards to end up with a really good win in less than an hour. Luckily I only gave back about a $100 and took all my winnings to the cashier’s cage! Fun but crazy game to play when you get tired of standing at the craps table. 😀 Our bill folds were so full we could hardly bend them. Goldfinger when will you let us borrow one of your money belts!!!

At the end of the trip we ended up with a good win! Gosh this game of craps is a lot of fun …. winning is the most fun!

We look forward to seeing many of you in Atlantic City!

Doc, in using the five-count,
how do you handle it, if the CF makes a point within, say, the first three throws?
Do you continue counting or do you start your five-count over?

7 x 7,

I’ll let Doc answer for himself, but I keep counting down. The next come out roll would be 4 then.

7×7,

ACPA does it just like we do. We just keep on counting until the 5 count is complete.

However, if you were to start the count all over after a random roller makes his point, you would obviously have a "longer" five count. Waiting a little longer than the regular five count might be a great thing to do–the less you bet on random rollers the better for your bank roll. As has been mentioned in class many times never betting on a random roller will save you money in the long run. We still want to try and look like a regular player so we make a minimum bet with low odds after the five count as we teach it.

You do have a good idea about starting the 5 count over if the random roller makes his point during the five count. We just might give it an it try. Thanks for sharing that idea.

Is this a good message board or not!!!

In first learning the five count (more than anything responsible for my extended stays at the table lately), I always remember that it starts with a point and ends with a point so the other three numbers in between, to me at least, are immaterial. As an example, this past weekend in Vegas, I five-counted every CF and there were a couple that would establish a point, hit the point on the next throw, and then establish a new point. I don’t re-start for these guys because they are still within the 5-count at that point. It’s only AFTER they have hit the 5 count with a box number that I conclude the count and place a come bet (and only one). I have also decided that my most favorite CF is the one who sevens out right AFTER completing the 5-count so I make a nice come bet win on them and my LEAST favorite CF is the guy that completes the 5-count, throws one more box number and THEN sevens out. Can’t you just throw that 7 one roll before so I don’t lose my odds bet man??!!

Jim T,

I totally agree. A box number is a box number is a box number. Now if they’re all over with craps and yo’s on counts 2,3,4, and even before the first box to start the count, I’ll either increase my required count or more likely, forgettaboutit! And I think that’s where Doc and 7×7 noted, it’s a good excuse to extend the count on anyone to prevent putting any $$$ at risk, however small it is. I’m usually on your side with just counting it up as dictated. The only diff is it may end up being a line bet instead of Come if the point made the 5 count.
