Setting for 7s

Spread the love

I’m not a come bettor so normally set for a seven on come outs.

If you do that do you still do it if other people at the table are come bettors?

Or if other people are betting the ATS.

Does it matter if you know the other people, or do you feel it is there responsibility to know what you normall do.

Here is how I do it.

(1) if it is truly team play even if each uses their own bankroll then everyone needs to know what betting and sets will be used by each person and agreement on how play will progress.

(2) if playing with known DI and we get together or communicate before play then I will let them know I set for 7’s etc. probably won’t change my play unless I will be with a whole table full of DI and they are all Come betters then I might change my Come out play for a large group.

(3) if I see an unknown DI at a table I walk up to or random rollers I feel it is up to them to adjust to my play and not the other way around. They should be paying attention. Not my responsibility to change for them. Also, I don’t always toss a 7 just because I set for it. Wish I did! 😀

As a come bettor I always use the hardway set so this question does not apply to me as a shooter.

But as a player I feel it is my responsibility to see what set the shooter is using if he is a GTC player. Then it is up to me to determine how I want to bet if I see the player setting for something that is not consistent with my betting. I don’t feel it is incumbent upon a shooter to see how I am betting and adjust his play to accommodate me!

I know one player who sets for sevens unless I have come bets on the table. If I do he won’t set for sevens on come out rolls. I know another player who always sets for sevens on the come out roll regardless of what come bets other players have working.

I actually feel more comfortable with the player setting for sevens than the one who does not when he sees my come bets. I do not like a player changing his play on my behalf. I think that puts additional pressure on a player and takes him out of his game. I would rather you play your game and not worry about me.

I know what I am doing when I come bet a player who sets for sevens. That is my choice and I am willing to live with the consequences of my decision. I am a responsible adult who accepts accountability for my actions. I do not need you to alter your game on my behalf.

This is really pretty simple for Doc. I never use an all 7 set—only the hard way set. I am about a 90% come better–yes I will place the 6 and/or 8 from time to time. I am not interested in winning $5 or $10 on the come out when I can set a point, take some odds (usually $50) where I can make more $$$$. Five times odds brings me well under 1/2 of 1 percent or close to it. Yes I know I have an advantage on that come out roll but it is only a few dollars. Also not a problem for other come betters later in my roll.

With that said if I were one to set for the 7 on all come out rolls I would not to this on a come out roll after a point is made as a courtesy to other come players—GTC or chicken feeders.

Just a few thoughts from the peanut gallery.

Me, I also use the hardway set. The only time I may change, is on the come out roll if I need a horn number to complete the SAT bet, granted it is still a hardway set, just the 6’s & 1’s are now face numbers, not the axis numbers. But, as soon as my point is established, back to my normal hardway set.

I’m more of a place better, but I will come bet to try & get on a number that I don’t have placed if it is hitting more (I’m Stupidsticious like that). So, I just wanted to ask this scenario question/situation: Let’s say someone is in you preferred spot, and so you take the spot next to them. Being courtious, as you don’t know the shooter if they are a DI or CF, when they get the dice, you kind of step back, making sure that they have plenty of room. How is one able to see what set the shooter is using? You don’t want to ask them anything about their sets, you don’t want to bump into them, just so you can see. Also, along with that, what if the shooter when they set the dice, they are kind of covered, so you can’t see the set they are using for sure, what would one do then?

I know in playing, that there are some that it is hard to see what set they are using, again, whether they are DI, just a setter, or a CF, to be able to figure out if using come bets to be in you better interest …. Me personally, after I have the dice set, I try to take a second so anyone trying to take a look at the set I’m using does have the opportunity, to the best of my ability.

Just a random thought / question ….

Bump

Great that you bumped this Finisher because I missed it the first time around. So let me give you my opinion and how I play.

Unless I am playing at a $100 table, (where I am still a come bettor), when I get the dice the first time I will set for the seven, but after that I will set hardways. On any table that is less than a $100 table I always use the hardways right from the get go.

Now for the opinion on some one who sets for the 7 on every comeout roll ….. When you are shooting the dice and it is YOUR money on the line, regardless if there are GTC shooters at the table who have come bets out on the table, DO WHAT YOU NORMALLY WOULD DO! It is YOUR money on the table and you don’t want to think about anything when you are shooting especially about changing a pattern that you have. I personally don’t care if I have comebets out on the table and a shooter sets for the seven. If he or she throws a seven, so be it. My feeling is that it you their game, their battle field and they are the general when they are shooting and they are putting their money on line.

DO NOT change your pattern or rhythm of shooting for others

This was for LOUCIFER . Since he mentioned the 18 win thing . I do not look at what most set the dice .I just watch the dice and the landing . At times it is hard to see what the set is . If there is one . I do get a little more interested if I see so thing different tho . I have vary little out there on other throwers . I have vary little out there on my throw unless it is past 20 throws . 😀 Just saying .
I am still doing place bets and come bets tho I am trying to do more come bets . I will place the 6 and 8 with a come bet to get in early . That is on my throw . Other wise I make one come bet till win then another . Or do 5 or 6 count then come bet .
I see that the type of throw that we do does draw enough heat period . So they do not sweat the little that I play . I have had many pit critters said that they wished that they would have been on other side after my roll but not much else . But have run into some that were real AAAAs too .
On my next trip I will be happy if I roll half my age . I think I may count the rolls at least for a few rolls just to see how close I get .
Got a 200.00 food voucher for a casino in Laughlin that I have to use by Jan 31st . So it is steak time .
Hope that you see the Suns getting better they sure could use more wins .
Your pass line bet with odds is more then my bye in . 😀 🙂
But I am grateful for ALL the great advise from you and others on this site .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂

Thank you Finisher and I am glad that you are trying to be a 100% come player! At least you are using comebets on random rollers. That is a good thing!

We all have differing opinions on how we want to play, but the underlying objective is to make $$$. If you follow Dom and Doc’s setting and betting technique’s you are on your way to succeed. My best days have come from come betting and I remember the day that Little Debbie had a 56 roll and I had everything covered with come bets. Every time she moved her arm they were pushing a pile of chips to me. I am 100% sold on come betting and recommend that to everyone. Little Debbie and I are lucky that our casino (MS) does not have the ATS bets, these sucker bets are killers to your rhythm as well as a drain on your bankroll. They take time to set up and then come down on each 7 killing and any rhythm you’ve established is gone. We usually only play with one other GTC player (Angle) and he also plays exactly like us.

The wife thinks different on the STA bet .She says hell you don’t drink so think of it as a tip for you . The 3.00 that you would spend on your roll only when you throw a lot of crap and hard ways . When she comes up to the table she looks to see if I have a hard way bet . I have had the dealers tell me that it is time to bet the hard way and then they look behind me to point her out . I am going to stop telling her when I make that bet for some one at the table since most of the time I don’t bet it .If I feel like it I will bet it tho . It also does not bother me when rolling . I try not to let any thing into the roll .
In practice I record every roll and hard ways so at a glance I can see how the roll is going . Also play a radio . Have chips in way too.
Were I play at times they have one table with it and the other does not I guess they did not want to spend that much on new felt till it proved money wise .It took them 3 days to get this bet down to who does what when .
The rules for this bet is not set in stone as far as I can tell .
I may try the Enchilada bet this trip but more then likely with a less press .
Good Rolling. 😀 🙂
