How long do you play a losing session before you decide that "it isn’t happening" today?

Three turns shooting the dice. After that I am off for a break.

Go to eat or have a drink with my friends. Go for a walk if feeling energized. Take a nap if I feel I need the rest.

If I think it is something I need to straighten out I work on it in my room until the dice are reacting the way I want them to look and feel.

On my recent trip to Las Vegas my last day before flying back home which was on a Friday I shot two times before I knew it wasn’t going to be a good day for me so I just cut my looses and walked the strip. You can find my report here. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10464

Skinny So if you have driven a long way to get there and have rested then you are at the table next day and right off the bat you point 7 out but get the dice back because you are the only one . Next roll is in the teens with one crap number . Now it has been ????? mins. So you get the dice back to have a roll were the dice are looking better and then it gets near a 20 roll when the 7 comes . Knowing that you will not get your position back since the casino is filling up and it is usually full by this time .Decisions decisions what should I do since the next trip will be in 3 or 4 months ?
Now the real question comes. How long have I been rolling since I set the dice fast and there were no other betters and the dice did not go off the table or any other slow downs I am not tried at all .Do I just tell them that my water has kicked in and I need to go to rest room and hope that another player comes and I get a break or do I just keep on banging out the numbers ?
If you can go to a casino more often then I can it seems ok for 3 times .
I think that it will vary to each person and how their dice look also .
Is there a time limit that you may use also if you are the only one at the table .At times were I play I may roll for 8 turns before some one else comes . Then there are times were I have to wait for some time before my spot opens up .Craps is crazy .
If nobody is making crazy bets a 20 or 30 roll does not take long .
Just saying I kid one dealer about how many seconds my roll was .He came back from break and I was still rolling . He said you must be having a monster . I said that I wished but have taken 10 turns or more since you left .
I don’t
think that there are many on this site that would walk after 3 rolls if it took less the 10 min and they had 2 good rolls out of 3 .
Just saying but I may be wrong .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

Finisher the answer is simple are you there to play or to win.

Posted by: getagrip on May 8, 2016, 6:56 pm

Rich,

Are you a dice influencer? The answer might be different to your question depending if you are trying to use a controlled toss or not. I just didn’t see any classes listed next to your avatar so thought I would ask.

(1) If trying to control the dice then knowing your toss and your physical state at the time is probably your best indicator to staying for another hand or not. If dice do not look good and you don’t know exactly what to do to fix that flaw at this very moment or if you are physically uncomfortable for any reason then that is the last hand to toss without a break at least. I think the worst thing in figuring out if you should stay or go is if your dice look really good but the numbers were just not what you are used to seeing. At that point I usually stay for one more hand but that call is up to your best decision making at that time.

(2) if you are not a dice influencer or so new at it that you are very sporadic then maybe a "stop loss" amount is the way to go. I am sure you are familiar with this and how to base this on your bankroll and buy in. I still keep a stop loss in the back of my mind when I play Craps. Old habits are hard to break and some of the old habits can come in handy to keep us from going on tilt.

Good luck on your journey, dice are out!

How about betting the donts.

Finisher,

The question was, "How long do you play a losing session before you decide that "it isn’t happening" today?"

That is much different than, "less then 10 min and they had 2 good rolls out of 3".

Now as to your question about driving a long way, the table filling up, you may not get your position again if you leave, decisions, decisions, etc. etc.

None of that has any influence on me. Brothelman gave you the best answer to those type of concerns, "are you there to play or to win".

I believe the best answer to that type of question can be found in a post I wrote that is now in the Wisdom Pages. To make the point of my post, I discuss a trip I made to Atlantic City during a class weekend. I think I stayed at the casino a total of 7 nights and 8 days.

How many hours do you think you would spend playing craps if you were at a casino for 8 days in a row? Think about that a bit before reading my post. I suspect you will be surprised to find out how long I spent playing craps that trip. But I was there to win, not play craps. Click on the following title of the post to find out the answer.

Make your money on the 10+ to 20+ rolls

GREEN MACHINE random is random there is still a house advantage on the don’t.

It is tuff enough to beat the game with a controlled throw but it is even tougher to try and beet it betting differently each time.

My local casino is a 2:15 drive for me. Last week I drove up there. They have a sweet 12′ table that’s usually pretty empty. Took my position with 3 other players at the table. Threw the dice 4 times and couldn’t get past the 5 count. Typically I can see what I am doing wrong. This time, the dice just simply looked perfect. My grip was good. The dice were sticking together. I just simple could not figure it out. After my fourth throw, I got up and went to play blackjack. Stayed for 1 shoe and left. Was in the casino for less then an hour. When you don’t have it, you don’t have it. It’s not worth me losing my money to try to chase something that’s simply not going to happen. Hope this answers your question.

Midnight you are so right! How does the saying go: "win more by losing less". GTC always has solid advice, if we all could just follow it.

Usually by the 3rd Marker. 😆

Our closest casino is also a 2 1/4 mile drive. There are usually 2-4 of us playing together, and sometimes more. I will usually throw 3 times, and if it is not happening, I leave the craps table.

That is the reason to have other games in your arsenal. I also play Pai Gow, BJ Speed Count, and video poker. After a couple of hours, I may try craps again if my group is still around. I prefer to play with friends, not alone. That is just me.

We practice before we leave home. Once in the casino hotel room, I practice in front of the bathroom mirror, both grip and toss. As far as the grip, I want to know how it feels as well as looks in the mirror. As far as the toss, I am frequently needing to correct my hand position at the end of the toss, and looking in the mirror helps me get the feel.

Remember that the grip is everything. If it is not correct, the dice will land on edges and be random. If it is "not happening," I would suggest going to your room, if you have one, and look at your grip in the mirror.

You’re going to see a consistent trend here with most of the students and the instructors as well (and it’s not that we all live 2-3 hours from a casino)…

My casino is a solid 3 hour drive. Up at 5am, left my house by 6am, at the casino around 9am, waited for other GTC’ers to meet at 10am. This particular day the casino was short staffed and tables were packed. Waited until 11am for the next table to open. The table wasn’t one of our preferred tables and it filled up quickly so we waited until the next table opened at noon. Jumped on the table and got our spots. As we’re waiting for them to count out the chips, a few odd balls also join the table in the landing areas. The pitboss must have had a bad morning as he was cranky and before the table even officially opened, began arguing with a guy on the hook.

I’m thinking to myself, I’ve seen this movie before.

The dice come around, I either go point seven or a 3 roll. I felt my positive attitude had changed and the table was not what I wanted to be at so I cashed out, said goodbye to everyone and drove home 3 hours.

You have to be able to do that and as Brothelman perfectly said, either you play to WIN and under the proper conditions (not a bouncy table, a positive attitude, you’re not drinking, you’re not tired, etc) OR you’re gambling.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I go (and it’s rare) with non-GTC friends and we go to have a good time, enjoy a few drinks, sit down for a nice dinner, maybe play a card game but at the end of the day, that’s gambling and I expect to lose and my cost is equal to the cost of doing some other entertainment activity for the night.

I hope that helps…

GetaGrip,

I read you post and to answer your question. I’ve been practicing for over two years and I’ve for good rolls. Honestly, I’m still losing more than winning but I’m making progress. I signed up for the LV class at the end of June. I’m so geeked!

When I’m using the hardway set, it get annoying to see 25s and 34s. I’m on axis but double pitching. At least a 16 is a terrible throw.

I’m starting to develop the "feel" you mentioned.

Thanks for the tip.

IF we could or would only WALK after a win .
That would help a lot
It is strange that if you put some of yours wins in your pocket they frown on that but they sure LOCK UP THEIR TIPS RIGHT AWAY .
aLSO SOME DONT LET YOU CONTROL TIPS OR PIGGY BACK BETS .
Good Rolling. 😀 😀
