Memphis Review from a Refresher

Spread the love

I did not want to hijack Obiwan’s thread so I started a new one (Sorry!). My bride, Lady Luck and I were excited to be back. Me for my 3rd Refresher and her for her 1st. We practice every day and our first session was with Mr. Finesse. He watched each of us roll 3 times (individually of course) and had a very small tweak for each of us that made a huge difference with our throws. His ability to spot even small issues with your grip is amazing. He asked us how often we practice. We said pretty much every day. He then asked us the BIG question, How often do you practice just the grip. Our answer, never! Now we have added 12-15 minutes per day of grip only practice. Pick them up, check finger position, put them down. Repeat, repeat, repeat!

Our Mentor was Matt "Sandman". He was mentor for my Primer in 2014. It was great to see him again and his ability to spot flaws with my throw was impressive. He took videos with his iPhone which allowed me to see in slo-motion where I was turning my hands ever so slightly just as I began my forward movement. Seeing it allowed me to process what I was doing and correct it.

I can’t say enough about the input from all the instructors: Dom, Mr Finesse, Matt, Dr. Crapology, Alligator Rose, Daryl No Field Five, Michael "Midnight", and Nick at Night. No fluff was given. Just great information and instruction. You are all second to none.

The class was small which was great from a student’s perspective. It allowed time for more individual instruction at each station. I realize from a business perspective that you simply cannot continue to keep the classes small every time but it was really great for us.

As far as play: Lady Luck and I played for a few minutes at Horseshoe on Saturday night, handled the dice twice each and made a little bank and they bought us dinner. Not bad. We came back after dinner and gave a bit back, realized we were pretty tired and headed for bed.

On Sunday night, we played with a group of students, all Refreshers. Lady Luck had rolls of 15, 17, and 20; all money makers. I had rolls of 19, 24, and 36. Interestingly the 19 was not a money maker due to the number of Craps throws and hitting numbers we weren’t on. We are Come Betters and play a very disciplined game (maybe too disciplined at times). I didn’t really make any corrections after the 19 with the too many craps throws because I thought the dice looked good in the air, it was just one of those hands where it doesn’t work out. Anyway, the other GTC’er shot well also so we made enough back to pay for the trip plus a bit. Didn’t cover the class investment but that will be recouped soon enough, I have no doubt. By the way, on the 36 roll, Dom, Matt, and a few others were watching and encouraging as it went on. That was really cool to see and I have no doubt that Dom took great pride and was genuinely happy for the success that all of us at that table were experiencing.

So, to the students I have met before (SquareDice) and to all the new friends we made thanks for making this a great trip. Tommy C it was great to see you again as always. And for Dom, Mr. Finesse, Matt, No Field Five, MIdnight, Nick at Night, Dr. Crapology, and last but certainly not least, Alligator Rose thank you again for sharing your knowledge and skills with us and working so hard to make us better players and advantaged players. I don’t think I forgot any instructors or Mentors but if I did I apologize and I thank you as well.

Lady Luck and I will see you Vegas in September and if anyone of you who were there as students, mentors, or instructors ever make it to Cincinnati let us know. We would be honored to stand at table and play with anyone of you.

Once a Bone Crusher, always a Bone Crusher!

Sounds like a great class was had by all, and you and Lady Luck had some really solid rolls! Awesome!

Cincinatti? Hmmmm, my favorite roller coaster and my favorite sport together in one place! Time for a road trip!

Great post. Thank you. I’m sorry you were a part of the Bone Crushers. That was very unfortunate for you. All in all it was a great weekend. It was great seeing you. You have so much potential so keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing you again.

Thanks for sharing your class experience with our board members.

Jawbones both you and Lady Luck are on your way to becoming great dice controllers. I agree with NFF, you both took instruction well and I enjoyed watching you take accurate notes when advice was given. I still have my notes from when I was a student learning to become a dice controller.

I know both of you will work on your GRIP 😀 , and it was my pleasure to help you both. Don’t forget all of the instructors are here to help, if you have any questions ask it here and we will help.

See you in September in Vegas.

JB–a great post. Thanks for the kudos. All the instructors love what we do. And working with people like you and Lady Luck make it worth while. Only wish Rose and Doc would have had an opportunity to spend a little more time with both of you at the tables and maybe dinner. And yes, visiting in your home town is on our list, but after we kill a few Alligators (pun not intended for Alligator Rose) in our pond and we will be ready to go.

Hope to see you soon.

Rose and Doc

PS–once again the Rat Pack won the no 7’s contest thanks to some great team members. Primers rule again thanks to Obiwan’s great hand and his even better trash talk.

Thanks Mr. Finesse and Doc.

Mr Finesse we have been doing at least 10-15 minutes of grip alone. Doing the things you suggested and we are headed to a local casino tomorrow to see how much we have improved.

Doc, Lady luck and I really missed having dinner with you and AR. Looking forward to Vegas in September where we will be able to stay longer and spend some time at both the dinner table and the craps table with you and your beautiful bride.
