NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) – A New York woman charged with stealing a $25,000 casino chip at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun resort has rejected a plea deal.

The Day of New London reports (http://bit.ly/1RC8Yil ) that 42-year-old Moira Canty would have faced a $5,000 fine had she accepted the offer in New London Superior Court.

Canty’s lawyer, Frank Riccio, said Monday his client rejected the offer because she would have had to plead guilty to a larceny charge, leaving her with a felony conviction.

Canty, of Rockville Center, New York, could face up to 20 years in prison and a $15,000 fine if tried and convicted in the alleged February theft.

She remains free on $25,000 bail.

Kinda sad that she might be guilty. Hard to tell as we have so few facts. Will be interesting if we knew more facts. If she is guilty she was stupid to not accept the offer. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

$25,000 bail? She must have had the chip handy and used it.
