We hunt in Michigan for several days each fall, The casino there has a tub which they operate
during the week and a 14 foot table they use on weekends.
I drove up Friday night to play and there was only 1 guy there which is not normal. I got the
dice and set quickly and they said no you can do that. Now I have played here for 20 years
so I asked cant do what????
she said you can no longer set the dice here at all.
I colored up and left.
The following Monday I called the casino later in the day and asked for a pit boss I know.
He said that is the new rule, it was not placed because any one was winning, but
because of a couple of people that were taking way to long to set .
We had a long talk and I indicated this was going to cost you money because your
tables are mostly empty because a novice player ( this is resort area) will not
play alone, so the table sets there empty. Also including myself there are 8 others
that wont go there if they cant set the dice and that means their wives and others
they bring up in the summer wont come.
He also said they had already lost the 5 people from that area that play the most.
At any rate he said he would take it to the board again and see if they can do away
with the rule, but maybe get harder on those that take to long.
I think dice setting is the best thing to ever happen to a casino, I don’t understand
why they look a gift horse in the mouth.

We know that speed is important as the casino’s need as many decisions per hour so that they get to get to the "long run" quicker and the long term casino edge will offset any short term roll a given roller might have. For 90% of the players who wing the dice down the table—and this just might include a "wanta be" dice controller who doesn’t know what he is doing–so why sweat a few decent rolls. If they don’t have some winners from time to time nobody would come to the casino to simply lose money every time. Doesn’t make sense.
Another thing, why get on dice controllers as if we are cheating and their worse enemy. We are just like a little old lady who comes into the play the slots,we both come to the casino with one purpose in mind—both of us came to win money. Winning money is not only the most fun, but the name of the game.

Go there and just toss the dice up and down till you get your set just for a little fun and see what they say then .I see players set the dice all the time to then shake them just before their throw .Or they throw them again-est the wall a couple times before choosing the 2 that they want .
It is their GAME .
How about that it does take a longer time to pay off non GTCers .
The pay outs take longer then setting . But I may be wrong about that ?

I think the no setting the dice rule or law is a small problem or not the problem at all. Some folks make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Go to your local casino and ask them to give you the dice the way you want them set, they probably will do it without any problem.
I know the sharp dealers at our local casino give me the dice with the numbers I want on top 75% of the time. they are sharp and want to keep the game and tips coming in.
Lastly I think you did right thing, take your game and money to a different casino. That is what we did Northeast, when our favorite casino changed the tables everyone left. The casino used to have 16 tables and always full are now only 11 and most are closed on a daily basis.
