Hi!
I Would like to get some input as I am contemplating changing my long time grip to something new. Would like to know what grip you use. If you have tried other grips and the good and the bad of these changes.
I have always used the three finger front grip on the flat part of the dice near the top half of the dice and the thumb splitting the dice in back. I have done OK with this grip but I do not toss primary face numbers. In fact I toss them less than random so negative influence on those. My on axis percent is vey good–anywhere from 51% to 55% on axis is the norm for me. Therefore, the only reason I can see that is keeping me from primary face hits is my crooked middle finger. It is subtle but it is there.
Lately, I have been working on keeping my finger tips and thumb on the diagonal edges of the dice instead of on the flat of the dice. Still 3 finger front. I have my front fingers on the bottom diagonal of the dice and my thumb on the top diagonal of the dice. I am actually liking this grip and my dice are soft on the table and basically on axis. Seems easier to keep my hand closed and easier not to flick the wrist in release. They are hard to pick up properly but as with any grip that could be overcome with practice. Just want to make sure the practice is worth it. Anyone else use a diagonal grip? Anyone who has tried it and then gone back to their original grip? Just would like a discussion on the good and bad of it and maybe some tips on best pickup method if anyone has them. Not trying to influence anyone else to change to this grip. What is good for one may not be good for another.
Thanks everyone! Dice Are Out!

With as long as you have been around I would stay with the grip you are using, either the first one described or the current
one because of your very nice on axis percentage. What I would do is look closely at your outcomes and bet into them. I don’t
feel like a change would benefit you.
My on axis is around the 47% range but I would LOVE to have a 50-55%! Examine why you want to change, will it be worth
it or just making a mess.
OMC
PS I hope your on axis performance doesn’t include a lot of double pitch outs. If it does and you are using the hardways you might want to try the 2V or 3V sets. Since these 2 sets are asymmetrical one version of your choice may be better than the other. When I use the set (2V) in my preferred way, that is 6 and 3 at my thumb, I roll more 6’s. If I use it asymmetrically,
with the 6 and 4 at my thumb I roll more 8’s. In each case it is about 20% more of the particular number. Now if my point is 6 or 8 I set the dice appropriately to make the point.

Even if you do not come to the seminar fly in and get the tune-up. Then, do what he tells you. IGNORE what you think and just do what you are told on Friday night.
It is likely that you will then be able to show up Saturday morning, pay cash and attend the full refresher!!

The grip that GTC teaches or knows to be the perfect GRIP is the 3-Finger front grip with the Thumb tissue being centered where it makes contact on the back of the dice. This is the best grip to use to throw the dice with. Does every one use this grip, no they don’t, some have to make modifications to this grip because of physical deformities, arthritis or just the size of their fingers.
Speaking of the 3 Finger front, GTC would like everyone to hold the dice with their 3 fingers up as high as possible. Can everyone hold the dice at the top edge and control them, NO. Dominator holds the dice higher than anyone. I on the other hand can not control the dice when I hold them with tips on the top edge. I use a pad grip fairly deep on the front of the dice.
This is one of the things we look at in class and at times we must make adjustments to how some one holds the dice. Example: last October I had a student who had taken 3 or 4 class from us invest in a Tune-Up with me. He started throwing the dice and I am just watching him throw and after about 10 throws I asked him if his hand felt comfortable, it looked to tense and rigid to me. He said his hand always would cramp up after he threw the dice a few times. I then said I wanted to change his grip and he looked at me funny. I said lets experiment and I told him what I wanted him to do and the difference was dramatic from the very 1st throw. He did not believe how easy the dice came out of his hand and how they flew thru the air. He has switched to this new grip and his game has moved to a new level.
So asking what grip do you use is a good question but remember be careful with your experimentation. One may want to have an instructor help you with any adjustments you may want to make.

Remember that primary hits is not he end all – be all. Some of us are foward rollers. Being on Axis is the thing. So don’t concern yourself with hitting primary, concern yourself with if you hvae an edge
