NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey is taking its 2 1/2-year battle to legalize sports gambling back to the same court whose previous ruling handed it a defeat but also provided an opening to pursue further action.
Attorneys for the state and the four professional sports leagues and the NCAA will argue before the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
New Jersey has already suffered several defeats in court since the leagues sued in 2012 to stop sports gambling, but it has argued that language in a 3rd Circuit ruling from 2013 gives it the legal authority to allow sports gambling.
