Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) — A $100 wager on the World Series- bound Kansas City Royals at the start of the postseason and carried through their unbeaten streak would have paid more than $43,000, according to RJ Bell, founder of Las Vegas-based handicapping website Pregame.com.

The Royals yesterday defeated the Baltimore Orioles 2-1, completing a four-game sweep and winning their first American League pennant since 1985. The $43,000 payout would come to a bettor who rolled the winnings on each wager into the next game, Bell said.

It was a Major League Baseball postseason-record eighth straight victory for Kansas City, which completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels in the division series after taking a one-game playoff against the Oakland A’s.

The Royals will face either the San Francisco Giants or St. Louis Cardinals in the best-of-seven World Series, which begins Oct. 21 in Kansas City. The Giants can win the National League pennant with a victory tonight at home.

Before the season, the Royals were 35-1 to win the World Series, according to Pregame.com. The Cardinals were 10-1 and the Giants were 22-1.
