Dice Sets

Spread the love

So I wanted to ask people what they used for their preferred dice sets? Do you alter your set based on the point? What do you use on the come out? I recently played in a casino and had someone come up to me and criticize my dice set? He said I should stick with the 3V set because it was the best to use! I asked why he felt this way and he told me he read it in a book by some guys named Dom and Frank. I said "Oh yeah. I heard of those guys. I read their book also". He said the 3V offered protection against the 7 and if I use it, I will win more. I couldn’t tell the moron who I was or what I was doing so I just agreed and continued my thing. So I wanted to hear from you guys.

What that the guy is a moron, okay he is.

Your set should be based on your axis control.

Now what percentage your dice should be on axis before changing to a 2 or 3v set the experts should say.

Smart craps also can help with this.

Far to many people use the 2 or 3v sets who do not have great axis control hell most of them can not even hit the same spot, and if you can not hit the same spot what control do you have?

Too funny about that guy. How did you keep a straight face?
Being new to this – I still use the basic Hardway set.

Glad you had a great trip.

Midnight,
I only use the hard way set. I use the five top four facing for my come out roll. If my comebets are the inside numbers I go to the Four top two facing. If I want to make the number 4 I place the two up and threes facing me. It is easier to focus with those twos staring at me.
Good luck and see you in AC.

I use the hardway set strictly as I am also new to this while I train to have better control of the placement and the axis of the dice. My understanding is this set is the 7 protection set. The 3-V set is supposed to generate more 6s and 8s but not protect as well against the 7. So sounds like this guy has no idea what he is talking about and is probably using a set that has him throwing a lot more 7s than if he used the hardway set and then cursing to himself that the sets don’t work.

Rose and Doc use the hard way set exclusively—5’s up and 4’s facing us. We do not use a 7 set on the original come out roll as we want to set a box number where we can put odds (odds have no house vig) and make some $$$. Making 5 or 10 bucks when you could have gone to the a box number is not what we want to do.

Definitely do not use the 7 set after making a point as we are come betters and if the 7 comes up all of our bets on the table come down.

This works for us.

Rose and Doc

PS—he was a moron so good for you in ignoring him.

Jim, you are 100% correct. The hardway set gives you the most protection while the 3V will produce more 6’s and 8’s. This guy was comical and being that I’ve been doing this for as long as I have, I feel confident in the set that I use. I will tell you what I do after I get a few more responses. I find this to be an interesting topic to talk about.

I stick with the hardway set for the most part. Usually fives on top fours facing me. Every once in a while if my axis control looks good and I’m trying to hit the 10 or 4 I will switch to the 2v. My cue that my axis control is good is when I’m not seeing any 6s or 1s. If I am having a good session in regards to axis control ie not very many 6s or 1s and throwing lots of nines,my signature number I may change my hardway set to 4s up 2s facing me. This is because Smart craps shows me that when I am on. I tend to throw the number facing me, in this case the hard 4. Since I am not seeing the end faces i.e the 6s or 1s I probably won’t throw the 4 easy and if I am doing this I probably have $4 on the hard 4(the Big Enchilada). I almost never chase the point but if I have a Buy on the 4 or 10 I may switch to the 2v. This is rare but I have done it most recently Nov2013 in Vegas. I recommend that if you want to play with sets use Smart Craps to see if it’s working for you then if you decide to use it in the casino keep bankroll management in mind and stick with min limit bets.

2V for me. Lots of 6’s and 8’s plus good 5’s and 9’s. Hard 4 and 10. 2’s on top, 6/3 at my thumb. I tend to get a fair number of double pitch (6/4) from this set.

I use the hardway set (3s up, 2s facing) as my preferred set. I will use the 3-v on the comeout because I like the points to be inside number. I don’t worry about the added 7 risk become it’s the comeout.

Im Like Rose & Doc. Fives on Top Fours facing me. Started and was taught this way over 10 years ago and still do the same today. I do not mess around to much on my sets. I have a hard time consentrating on every thing alse so I just stick with the basics.

As Dom, Bob, Billy,Arman, No Field, and the rest of the gang say is what??? "the Grip and delivery" -after the correct set! 😀

NickatNight.
See many of you soon!! Hope a few casinos are still left to play!!

My question to you would be: How long have you been working at this? My humble opinion would be that nobody should be screwing around with any set except the HW set until they’ve had at least 5000 rolls with it and know what it does. And, I don’t mean just what the SRR is. I mean, do you double pitch to 7s or do you 6/1 a lot. Unless you’re real smart, and I"m not, you’ll have to hand log that stuff…or learn how the program tells you… but smart craps will definitely tell you which numbers the set is favoring FOR YOUR THROW. Everyone’s throw is different. That is part of what makes your acquaintance a busy body moron. He couldn’t possibly know what set you should be using. There are plenty of good software programs out there that will tell you a ton of information. Just my opinion.

I would say 95% of the time I use hardway, 5s on top 3s facing. On occasion I will use 2v, 5s on top 3/1 facing. Usually I make a decision ahead of time that I will use the 2v for a session and use it throughout.

For me hardway is the safer set so I usually default to the safer set.

I’ve recently gone to the 2V and honestly I’ve been crushing it with that set. On the come out I’ll use a hardway or 12’s trying to hit the 30-1 payout. Or 6-4 for the 10
Depends on where my firebet lies too. Nailed a 5 this past weekend and a four too. I stay away from the hardways just wasn’t working for me.

Remember with a 2V set. a secondary hit will be a 6 or 8. This is a good thing. BUT–isn’t there always a but–protection from the 7 is not as good which is why Rose and Doc use the HW set exclusively. We can set the HW very quickly with no thinking about it. It works for us. This is a personal choice.

Over the last month I’ve used the 2V 4-6 or 6-4 facing me. I like this set because of the 2-1 payouts and they’re the hardest points to make. I hit every single number from this set as well. For the come out roll I’ll use the hardway set and hop the hardways that’s just me though. When I’m chasing the firebet I’ll set for the numbers I need then go back to the 2V during the point roll.

Kaz,

Have you taken any GTC classes or any class from other so called dice instructors and how long have you been playing this game?

Posted by: OneMoonCircles on September 3, 2014, 6:02 am

Everyone has "their" set. I prefer the 2V because I throw too many on axis double pitches. There are only 2 with the 2V that brings the seven. If I can solve the right dice being one off axis so much my winnings will improve dramatically. I am happy and confident with the 2V set. I set for 7’s on the comeout regardless how anyone at the table is betting. If you are a come bettor just hop the 7’s for enough to cover yourself on the comeout. I have occasionally rolled 5 7’s back to back and many times 2 or 3.

I believe that the mental part of the game goes along with which set you prefer. Be comfortable with "your" set and I think that you will make more money in the long run.

I use the hardway set very little and the 3V but not often on it either. I play a set for the don’t, I have my own strategy for the don’t and do not like to play it unless I have the table to myself. I do quite well with it too.

OMC, although I respect the fact that when you have the dice you can set anyway you want, I do believe that it is a courtesy to other players, especially come betters, to not set for the 7 after you make a point. Just my opinion.

Doc,

If you were throwing I think it is my responsibility to bet into your toss. This is not something you should have to be concerned about, just throw. You could place bet and I wouldn’t have to worry about your bets. And mostly I don’t. However, I have changed my set for my partners. Unfortunately the 7 came anyway.

The hard ways is my preferred set but there is a difference in what numbers you have facing up and facing toward you. My numbers and payouts have improved with the five’s facing up and the three’s facing away from me. Hard to believe that one click can make that much difference. It’s all about tracking you numbers and doing the math.

Posted by: The WoW Man on September 4, 2014, 2:49 pm

Point well taken Breeze. For me it’s fours facing up, fives facing me.
I set for the seven on the come out. I’m a six, eight place better when I’m shooting. Getting back to setting for the seven on the come out. I’m playing to win money from the casino. When I’m five counting a cf and make my first come bet, I gladly take the win with a seven out.

Seeing that this game is 90% between the ears, why add another path to the maze in our brain. Go with what you practice. " KISS " 🙄

I remember asking Frank what kind of on axis percentage I should have before switching to a 2V or 3V. He told me 75% or better. 😮

Six years later, I’m still using the HW set.

Hi sevenout,
While reading your response, I couldn’t help recalling a TV commercial that the great Green Bay Packer running back Paul Horning made.
He exits a limo in front of a nightclub with two gorgeous blonds. The doorman says, Mr. Horning, how do you do it? Paul Horning replies, " Practice, Practice, Practice " 😆

Catch you later! 😎
