A few weeks ago our oldest daughter, her husband and 2 kids were coming to spend a week with us. Turns out the parents had a conference in Dallas so the kids flew in first, for the first time by themselves. We were to have them for 3 days totally unsupervised. We have been with the kids many times but the parents were always around and we could not spoil them like we wanted. Was a fun 3 days. Took them to see the Lego movie and that was a hit with them—grand daughter age 13 and grandson 11. We played a lot of Monopoly, crazy eight and other card games. The grandson would act as the stick man when I was practicing. Every morning Rose had her own personal hair dresser (age 13) to fix her hair in a different way each day.

Then the parents joined us for 5 days and the fun continued. The grand kids are home schooled and were doing a unit on Texas History. Went to the State Capitol building and took the tour to see the history of Texas and how laws are make in the Lone Star State. The next day spent the better part of the in the State Museum. Then it was off to the community swimming pool–which we did each and every day. They have a slide that goes into the pool that goes around in circles at a pretty good rate of speed. Each time we went old Grand Pa would make a grand entrance into the pool by way of the slide. Remember I was in charge of entertainment and silliness. As I went down the slide at the end I would stick my feet up in the air and enter the water behind first nearly drowning myself. The kids said I really looked funny. And so it went for the rest of the trip.

So much fun. Like all of the kids I see these days they are so smart and wanting to learn. A pleasure to be with them.

Will make a quick stop in their town in West Texas for a couple of days before flying on to AC for the class weekend.
