World We Live In

Casino

Spread the love

We all go to the casino or we would not be on this board, and i like them as much
as anyone.

However last night i have event that left me with a very hollow feeling on the way home.

I had just finished a couple of business meetings and my sone was going to call me at 8
to see if i had to help him pre-fish for this weekends Walley tournament. I had 45 minutes
to waste so i went to casino 2 miles away for a burger and a little poker.

I was walking around and security was clearing a path for the emt cart. A women was
standing in front of a small room and i thought, well looks fine. All of a sudden they
pull that cart into the room and then pushed an old guy through the casino and out the door.
They were giving him CPR as they ran. It was clear he had no heart beat.

As this unfolded i notice people around, and i swear to the very last one of them, they looked
and then back at the slot machines. I did not seen anyone that followed the guy out the door,
not enough concern to even say to the person next to them, i wonder how he is, i wonder who he is
or look at his wife.

NO i cant detect what went on in their minds, but clearly what went on in the slot machine was
more important.

All i know is i did not feel same on my drive home.

I’m not sure there’s any adequate way to answer your post G-Man. During my many years as a Denver Police Officer I saw this scene played out to many times to remember. The guy that was stabbed numerous times in a bar, went down and died. His body was shoved under the pool table because he was hindering the players. The bar tender who was blasted by a patron he had ejected hours earlier. The guy returned with a shotgun and damn near took his head clean off. We got there an hour later after his boss went by to check the till. A nice patron was behind the bar serving, stepping over the body trying not to get his Nikes messed up. Even better than that all the folks in the bar saw nothing, they were all in the bathroom at the time of the shooting. All 100+ crammed into a one holeer, a new Guinness record.

As the song goes Beer is good, God is Great and people are crazy. Chalk it up to the way our society has been conditioned over the past several decades. Don’t say anything, don’t get involved and above everything else act like your unconcerned. There might be a member of the Politically correct Police nearby watching. Or it could be we’re all just a calloused bunch of sob’s who could give a damn unless it involves "me".

I still remember going to get a coke at the snack bar at Hollywood in tunica and seeing someone on the floor there. People were stepping over him and I was told he was passed out drunk and security had been called.

It was several minutes before anyone showed up.

S hapens .
When I was a teenager I tried to help a person that was hand cuffed at the time being kicked by a police officer on the ground pined up against his car . ( POLICE CAR IN ALLEY ) I asked the officer if he needed any help thinking that he would stop when help arrived .Well I was right and got arrested for that little help .So now am vary reluctant to offer help .
I was on my way to catch a bus to go see my girl friend at the time .It was about 6.00 pm .At around 12 midnight my girl friends parents came to police station . My mother and sister got there about 1.00 and they let me loose at about 3AM .
When I gave my statement I told the truth but the officer did not write any thing I said he just asked after I was finished if that was the truth and I said YES and that is when I noticed that he had not been writing any thing that I had told him .
At the time I was maybe 5ft2 and 135 lbs. The officer was well over 6 ft and looked big that is one reason I did not go on the side of car that he was on . But I did open his driver side door and ask if I could call for help .
When opening the door his voice changed so that I said to myself that I needed to leave . But help arrived and it did not look good that I was headed toward them . So he stopped kicking the guy and threw me up against a building and arrested me for resisting, and interfering in police matters .
When went to court found out that he had his reasons for what he did or was doing .I was just there at the wrong time trying to be nice . It cost me 15.00 for lawyer that did not show the first time so I had it post ponied . When did go to trial the lawyer told me to just answer YES or NO AND SAY NOTHING . I did what he said and the judge asked 2 questions then dismissed the case period . I learned a lot that night .Today things would have been different . That was on the South side of CHICAGO IN 1968 .
There was no mention as to reasons for his actions accept for an arrest .The truth does not always come out in matters like these .
I just hope that the officer that heard my story talked to that officer that arrested me .
Maybe we both learned some thing from it .
Good Rolling.

Was in a casino one night rather late when the player at first base passed out, had a heart attack or was simply totally drunk–I never found out which. The dealer called out "player down" and the game continued for several rounds while security came and carried him out. The game never stopped as absolutely no one, including the dealer, pit crew or players gave a damn about the player down. They only wanted the game to continue. Pretty sad.

A second story that I did not witness but have read a couple of times, regarded a fire in the casino. It turned out to be a minor food fire in the kitchen and was put out quickly. However they evacuated the casino as a precaution. They asked one elderly lady (probably in her 80’s) to leave her slot machine. She was escorted out. Twice she sneaked back in to continue playing. When asked why she kept coming back in despite the fact it could have been a dangerous situation, her reply "the machine is about to pay and I want to be sure I get MY win." In other words playing the machine is more important than her life. It’s a crazy world.
