PRACTICE

Spread the love

I was just wondering how everyone who has attended our classes this year is doing with their practice. Does anyone have any questions or do you need help.

Remember we are here to help you. Please ask, especially those of you who just attended the Vegas class last week.

Since you are asking Mr. Finesse…..

It started as a typical Winning Wednesday……

We all agreed to take a break from the place with the microfiber tables and try to get a suntan this week. We also decided to play on the “Big Boy” table, $25.00 – 12ft.
The Professor and I were the only players this week. We discussed conservative betting because of the higher table limits. I mentioned to the Professor I rolled on the same table last night and managed to double my buy in with rolls in the teens.
The dice went around the table a few times with the Professor having the first money making roll. I received the dice, made a point and immediately sevened out. What just happened I asked myself? Well, you did not wait long enough after picking up the dice and did not aim properly.

Now The GTC training comes in mind: I hear Pit Boss saying “one thousand, two thousand, three thousand” Knowing this clears yours mind and helps to aim is a key point of shooting. So I patiently wait for the dice to return.
I receive the dice again and after the random rollers clear the table. My landing area opens up. Then it starts: This time I focus on exhaling and following thru the shoot as I learned from many years of archery competition. The roll continues into the high teens. Now I have Mr. Finesse on my shoulder talking in my ear “Let the dice fly, trust your shot” Now the roll is into the thirties. The line between me throwing the dice and shooting an arrow becomes blurred. (I love the tricks my warped my mind plays on me under shooting stress, dice or archery). The routine is set: set the dice, lean over the table, inhale, exhale, aim, release. This continues until the roll goes into the sixties and ends.

Everyone did well including the dealers, I was able to hit the four and ten multiple times and drive home the six and eight.

The dice go around the table again. I receive the dice not expecting another long roll but sometimes the craps gods smile up on you. It starts again. I immediately fall into the same routine. The roll continues, now into the thirties. The table fills up and one guy places his chips dead center in the landing zone. At first I am a bit annoyed but once again the GTC training kicks in, I hear Skinny saying “ Extend your arm and place the dice where you want them” I let the shot go – the dice land one inch in front of the chips, hit the back wall and die. No problem I say to myself. The roll continues. I do hit his chips once or twice and then the table heat comes down on him and he moves the chips. A clean landing area again. The roll continues into the sixties again before the seven appears. During the roll another GTC student shows up and able to cash in on the roll.

At this point I am burnt out ready to cash out and enjoy the moment because
“Winning is the Most Fun”

I like to thank all the GTC instructors that tolerated my endless questions and their patience. A special thanks to Billy and Darryl that tied everything together during the advance class in AC. I could have never reached this point on my own.

Back to back sixties, that is fantastic ❗ ❗ ❗

I was there when Stickman rolled a 44 and followed it up with a 77. It was an amazing thing to watch so I can just imagine what it is like to have two rolls of sixty in a row. Congratulations on your success at the tables but more importantly on using your GTC training to overcome some of the hurdles along the way.

WOW—what a report. Way to increase the old 401G. A great read. Congratulations on a great session. Would have been great to witness. Hope it continues for you.

I love it when one of our Advanced Class students has a huge hand. But to put 2 huge hands together in a session just makes me glow.
I am so proud of you!

I’ve been feeling discouraged by my practices. I’ve been recording my data, & I have an SRR of only 7.7 after 1300 rolls. I’m wondering if it’s too soon to get Smart Craps to analyze my rolls. I seem to be rolling too many 6’s and 1’s, and at the tables I haven’t been able to sustain a hand of more than a few rolls. On the bright side, I roll more hardways than 7’s. Other than that, I’m sure there are some trends which is why I thought of Smart Craps. Any thoughts?

Little Debbie,

Most people would be happy to have a SRR of 7.7.

You state your SRR is 7 but complain that the 6/1 shows it’s ugly face to often. Smart Craps will do nothing to fix that and until you get it sorted out don’t waste the money. Your grip is off and the result is off axis leaves.

Posted by: Chuckman on July 8, 2014, 3:15 am

If you had a SRR of 6, you would get 217 sevens on a batch of 1300 rolls. You have a SRR of 7.7 which means you only had 169 sevens. This is excellent. Why do I say that? Because on 1300 rolls 176 sevens would be three standard deviations less than a perfectly random distribution. You had fewer than 176, so for that batch of 1300 rolls you were influencing the dice. So again congratulations.

An SRR of 7.7 is quite good. Don’t give up. Rolling in the casino is different in that there is naturally some added stress especially when you are just starting. Get 5000 rolls and then see where you are. One of the instructors might correct me but I think your dice are split when you toss them, be certain that they are together.

Have Fun!

I have practiced my butt off since the Vegas class and am actually wondering if I have been rolling too much. Initial results on my practice rig were great with lots of mid to high teens and many more into the twenties and some thirties – got in the zone and rolled a 38. But things have slid to a lot more short rolls and more off axis hits then I was experiencing. Went back to using the gripper full time and located a mirror so I can see how my hand looks after release and the position of my fingers and thumb. I may try to film my throw in slow motion to see if there is something quirky going on with my ring finger as it is producing the "one" frequently. I still have a decent SRR but lots of shorter rolls with the good seven’s. If is wasn’t for using the Hardways set things would really be looking dismal.

Going to take a break and not practice until the weekend when I am well rested and get my confidence back. Think that I have actually been over thinking the short rolls and making too many adjustments on the fly to try and get back to the longer rolls. In the mean time I am going to review my video, the notes and comments and get this thing flying again. I have to work on the mental portion as well and learn to relax more when I am practicing.

Chuckman and OneMoonCircles,

Thanks for your supportive and helpful comments. I thought I was little better than a random roller but your remarks cleared that up. With a few corrections I should be able to advance my skills a bit. Thanks!

I think it depends on other things too. For one thing what was the break down on 7s . Like if 150 were 6-1 it is different then if they were all 4/3 or 5/2s .
Come out 7s But what do I know I am just starting this long journey and maybe some one with more experience will add to help you .
I would love to have that many 7s if a lot were come out 7s .
In my practice I keep track of the come out 7s too.
Some times they equal the number of 7s for that session .
Just some thoughts to think about .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂

The Breeze,

After my wife passed away I buried myself in practicing craps. I kept increasing the practice days and after about a year I figured out that I was over practicing. At first it was very hard to cut back. These days I do a "formal" practice (120 rolls) 2 or 3 days a week and most weeks have an afternoon with Goldfinger and JBW that I don’t count the throws.

Since Vegas I have had some outstanding practices with astonishing results. I definitely do not have the new style toss dialed in yet but it looks very promising. Most notably my practice is now taking about 80 minutes instead of about 60. I am not shooting as quickly and the results are better. For what it is worth my SRR was 9.41 in June with long term, 2300 rolls is 9.13. So far in July my short term SRR is 10 and long term now up to 2760 rolls is 9.14.

In casino action is up and down. Seems like I just get going and bam, down the drain. I play at 4 casinos with very different tables so that will take some time to get used to the dice reactions on each.

I think you have the right idea. If you think you are practicing too much then you most likely are. Cut back, follow the notes from class and I’m certain that things will improve. You are a capable advantage player so just be smart.

How is "Sweet Breeze" doing? Practicing regularly? Hope so.

I have been with GTC for many years now. I am an assistant instructor. And I still practice all of the time. Almost every day. And when I have plans to go to a casino, I try to put extra time in. The best hitters in baseball still show up to practice and spring training. It is a continuous education. And the most important thing to be practicing is the grip. GRIP GRIP GRIP.

OneMoon, thanks for the note and I passed on your thoughts to Sweet Breeze. She has not been practicing much due to a back strain but will be back on the practice rig today – she promised. She has now read the first book and is working on the next.

The class helped me figure out a few things that I have struggled with that have affected my consistency and I am trying to incorporate these changes into positive muscle memory. Think Bob got me straighten out with my grip and my dice look much better traveling in the air.

I have only had one trip to the casino (Windsor and MGM Detroit) with mixed results- got to around the ten+ rolls with the proper amount on the table – just ready to take off and would roll a 3/4 or 2/5. But the dice really looked good. The practice rig results are looking up and my SRR is decent but I think my issue is not enough play on real tables and not enough time in casino play – the mental part in the casinos.

Working on my travel schedule and have plans for Laughlin and Albuquerque in August. Albuquerque has always been a thorn in my side and would like to brake loose there. I may get in a trip to Denver (around August 12th) in between if I can work out a few details with work. If so would probably bring Sweet along with me. Look forward to when we can get together and pan for some gold up in those hills.

Hi Finisher,

Thanks for your post.

My 7’s break down as follows: 33% 1-6 combos, 34% 2-5 combos, and 33% 3-4 combos. I haven’t been keeping track of what would be my come-out roll.

Posted by: Finisher on July 16, 2014, 11:51 pm

In my practice sheet I record both 7 outs and come out 7s .Mostly because I use a different set for the come out roll .
If you just use the hard way set then ALL 7s count .
I one time rolled 17 numbers before I est a number for a point but that is not the norm .
This is a journey so don’t get discouraged .
Good Rolling. 🙂 🙂
