June Las Vegas class

Spread the love

After following the GTC methods for the last 6 years I finally decided to take the Primer along with my son. We knew in advance that we were not the typical primer students. However, we had decided to learn all we could and make changes to take us to the next level.

GTC philosophy has changed and is not that evident on the website. It has changed due to table conditions and for the better. The betting portion is almost unchanged except now there seems to be more emphasis on not making the bad bets and betting using the come rather than the place betting.
I for one will continue to place bet and follow Stickman’s up a unit progression. It is so easy for me and I don’t have to really think about it while throwing.

It was great to put names to faces like Finisher. We had a small class and that was nice for all of us. All of the students were friendly and everyone seemed to be working hard. All of the instructors I had seen at previous meet and greets but had not "officially" met. I enjoyed meeting them and the
discussions with them. It was very nice to see Not2soon and I had a most stimulating conversation with him and PitBoss.

Input from each instructor was noted and acted upon. Some to a great degree and others not so much. Every instructor (several I did not get any instruction from) was positive and challenging. Also everyone asked why not the three finger front and seemed ok with my reasoning but several did not like it and that was obvious. On Sunday I received unexpected praise from Dom when he stated "That may be the best single finger front shot I have ever seen". When there are multiple instructors different ones stand out to different students. The 3 that stood out to me were Nick@Night, NoFieldFive and particularly Randman. PitBoss gave me special insight to one of my betting strategies.

One cannot take the primer and not say something about their mentor. Mine was longtime friend Goldfinger. I don’t know if he noticed the changes I was trying to make or not. He kept copious notes on the three in our group and I am anxiously awaiting the condensation of those . Goldfinger did a wonderful job of keeping things moving and being positive and seeing to it that each of us got throwing time at each station.

The 3rd student in our group was Ann (Sweet Breeze?) and she was totally new. Ann worked very hard and did wonderful in the contest on Sunday. I think The Breeze had better hang on because I predict Ann will be a very good advantage player. It was wonderful to meet her.

While in LV we ate at several great places. Golden Gate casino had their special pancakes and the "short" order mrE could not finish. For me I had the 2 piece french toast and I barely got through the 2 pieces. Large portions. We ate at the Firefly on Paradise Blvd and it was tasty as always. Not to mention the eye candy. Not as good as before they moved north though. Rio buffet is $32 and a waste of money. As far as I could tell they only added crab legs and raised the price $10. However mrE ate 3 large slices of prime rib and he says it was excellent. Everything I had was tasty but not $32 tasty. We had sandwiches at Capriotti’s on Sahara just behind Bonanza at the southwest corner at Las Vegas Blvd. 20" sandwich which we split and it was one of the best sandwiches I ever ate. In the Quad is Guy Fieri’s and we each had the $20 mac and cheese burger, very tasty and filling. Four styles of french fries with the sandwich. Next time around we are going to try Giada’s also at the Quad. We also will try Bobby Flay’s wherever that is at mrE’s whim. We missed In N Out burger, went there but there was over a 35 minute wait so we decided to forego that and hit Capriotti’s. Next visit.

The return to Denver was uneventful except for a large doe crossing I-70 about 2 miles east of the Eisenhower tunnel.

Thankyou to all the instructors and mentors. Now I must hit the practice table and I will spend 6 months trying the new toss. So far seems promising.
Had a 26, 23 and 39 in practice so far. Did well at the casinos yesterday and came home up.

I am looking forward to practicing with Ion from our area. He is a new player and may be a new playing partner. This time the Colorado folks almost out numbered the Texans. Yeah!! LOL

Lastly, I do not "hate" the casinos, rather I love for them to collect all that money for me to WIN!!

Good rolling and winning everyone!!

OMC—a great read. Hope your 1 finger grip continues to work for you. Would have loved to make some of the places where you ate. Sounds delicious.

Hope to bring some of that Texas luck and throwing skill to Colorado in the near future.

Doc and Rose,

Practice numbers have been up. Better in all categories.

I will be pleased to throw with you when you come, just let me know. It was very nice to see you two again and I look forward to more socializing next time.

I have a Question, Did you leave with a one finger throw?

Did dom say that your one finger throw better than a three finger toss or just the best one finger he had seen?

NFF and Brothelman,

NFF thank you and it was very nice meeting you also. The "new" toss is going well and especially in practice but I am sure it will take time to get dialed in.
It also did well for me this last weekend in one casino and not so much in another. The 2 tables are quite different and I think I know how to make the adjustment on the 2nd table now. My dice look great and Monday nights’ practice gave me more primary, secondary and less double pitches, one off axis and 2 off axis hits. Significantly. Probably see you again in October.

BMan, I came home with the one finger front. I have arthritis in both hands and after about 20 rolls with 3 fingers the pain becomes intolerable so I switched to one finger about 5 years ago. However, 3 years ago I threw with the 3 finger front for a year and then checked the numbers as opposed to the 1 finger front. Results favored the 1 finger front but only by a small margin. Since then the arthritis has increased so I am happy with the 1 finger front and do quite well with it. Somedays the dice look and do as well as anyones 3 finger front. Each of us has our own peculiarities so I will throw with
what works best for me. As should you. The class did send me home with a major change in the throw and I can tell with practice it will help me reach the next level and my target for me is an SRR of 10. Wish me well.
