Perfect practice is the only practice

Old Doc had been having some bad rolls, and needed some help. Called Rose over. The grip was spot on. The swing looked good and the dice were landing on my spot. Only having short rolls with about 40% of the rolls being non box numbers. Dice going to the left toward the dealer at the other end of the table. Pitiful.

At first Rose couldn’t figure out why I has having so many "non box numbers." She moved around to different positions to observe my shot and try and find our what was wrong. Then she got on the opposite side of the table where the dealer would stand, and announced " your right should is way too low and your shoulders are not on target." Got the old body lined up correctly and bam—had a very nice 26 roll with only 3 "non Box numbers." The swing was so much smoother and the dice on an excellent axis together.

This morning most of the rolls had few if any "non box numbers"–well there had to be at least one once in a few rolls. Did not play with chips, just worked on the items mentioned above.

I write this to let every one know that small items will creep into your throw and it helps to have some one take a look.

PS—Goldfinger get ready for some big rolls next week!!!! Are were your born read?

Doc,

If the dice are going to the left for a right hand shooter throwing from SL, your hand is not parallel to the table at release. The left side of your hand (index finger side) is higher than the right side (pinky side) at release. The dice are landing on an angle with the left die higher than the right die and bouncing off to the left on impact.

Your shoulders not being parallel is one possible cause of this condition. You also could be "hooking" your hand inside on the back swing and "round housing" it on the forward swing. The net result will be your hand is tilted at an angle causing the dice to land at that angle.

It can be a very slight motion that is difficult to see at regular speed. Sometimes you can see this better if you throw two die that are glued together because you can see them landing on an angle with the left die higher than the right die.

Skinny, used a 24 inch by 36 mirror at the end of the table and the swing seemed to be OK with the release a little off. Once I got the shoulders lined up the swing was smoother (could feel it easily) and the release became horizontal giving a good horizontal axis with much better results. My shoulders were so off that it caused the release, that I thought was level, to be tilted slightly. I know this will not correct the problems others may have in their throw but it certainly was good for me.

Thanks for your suggestions, Rose and I will certainly keep them in mind. Hopefully others on this board can learn as well, which was the main reason I made this post. Hope others will chine in.

Rose and I hope to see you soon.
